Ascot Racecourse is scheduled to host a bumper nine-race card this Saturday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s Perth form expert presents his top tips along with odds from the best betting sites. The track is rated a Good 4, with the rail out 9m the entire circuit, so it will be worth following on-pace runners throughout the card. The meeting is scheduled to commence at 12:37pm AWST (3:37pm AEDT).

Cyril Flower Stakes Top Tip – Triple Missile

The Listed Cyril Flower Stakes is Saturday’s feature event, and we are expecting the Lindsey Smith-trained Triple Missile can return from a brief spell with a win. The turn of foot this guy possesses is up their as one of the best in the state and despite getting back and run on, he is a dead set sprinting machine. He has three wins from four starts at the 1200m and two of those wins have come at the track and distance. Brad Parnham will take the steer for the first time, but considering a breakneck speed is likely to be set throughout, then it should be set up for Triple Missile to finish right over the top of some vulnerable leaders. $2.80 is on offer from Bet365 and despite the fact we may get a better price on race day, Triple Missile looks the one to be with in the Cyril Flower Stakes.

Ascot Best Bet – Cheval De Vaga

Cheval De Vaga is a favourite of ours and he rewarded us once again with another win at the Ascot mile on January 29. He steps back to 1400m, but it looks to be no hinderance to him, with the six-year-old bay gelding having won at the track and distance three starts back. He has strung together five straight games and has come up with barrier one on Saturday. We expect Keshaw Dhurun to use the perfect barrier advantage to the advantage of Cheval De Vega where he will look to roll forward and dictate terms throughout. He showed last time out the even when challenged he can offer a kick under pressure and if he replicates a similar performance this weekend, it is hard to see how his rivals stop him from bringing up a sixth successive win.

Next Best Bet – River Rubicon

The Steve Wolfe-trained River Rubicon was a smart winner when resuming at Mt Barker on January 23 and looks perfectly placed to build on that winning form. The three-year-old son of Rubick gained the perfect run in transit and when asked for an effort inside the final furlong put his Class Two rivals away with relative ease. In our opinion, this race is no harder than the one he smashed last time out and from barrier four with Shaun McGruddy on board is set to gain a similar run this time round. McGruddy has been on board for all three starts in River Rubicon’s career and considering he has two wins and a minor placing in that time, the bay gelding is clearly a classy animal. The $2.90 on offer from Bet365 is more than good enough.

Best Value At Ascot – The Great One

Steve Wolfe had a throw at the stumps with The Great One in the Mount Barker Sprint last time out over 1300m, but the step back up to the looks ideal. The seven-year-old bay gelding was a handy winner at his Ascot debut three runs back and returns to the track in a bid to keep his undefeated record at Ascot alive. From barrier 11, Shaun McGruddy will need a touch of luck in finding cover close to the speed, but we anticipate if he is lucky enough to do so, then The Great One should prove too hard to run down in the final race of the day.
