Nine races will be run and won at Ascot Racecourse in Perth on Saturday, May 1. The track is rated a Good 4 and the rail is out 2m for the entire circumference of the course, which should see the track play fairly all afternoon. HorseBetting.com.au has found three betting tips throughout the card and a quaddie to bring us home with. Race 1 will jump at 11:49am local time.
Best Bet: Image Keeper
Image Keeper has won three races on the trot, and although he rises 1.5kg off his last win, we see no reason why he cannot do it again. The son of Scandal Keeper hasn’t won by big margins in all three runs this campaign, but he puts himself in the race and his will to win is second to few. Brad Rawiller is one of the better riders in Western Australia, and barrier seven should see him one out one back throughout. He looks very hard to beat in the penultimate race on the card.
Race 8 – Image Keeper (#3)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1368188_08]
Next Best: Treat Yo Self
Four-year-old mare Treat Yo Self has not missed the places in her last eight runs, winning twice in that stretch. By champion WA sire Blackfriars, she resumed this campaign with another second over 1705m before winning her next start at 1800m here at Ascot. Now third up, she should be peaking fitness wise and stretches out to 2200m, where she has won before. Clint Johnston-Porter will send her forward from barrier seven and will have her in it for most of this.
Race 4 – Treat Yo Self (#9)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1368188_04]
Best Value: Majinka
We aren’t knocking the favourite here in Watch Me Dance; she is a very good filly, but at the prices quoted, we want to be on Majinka. The nine-year-old gelding has won two from four at this track and distance, including a 1.5-length victory here on April 3 at his most recent outing. Jade McNaught will do the steering from barrier three, which will see him go forward with 56kg on his back. Hopefully his last-start win wasn’t an anomaly and he can make it win 10 at start 50.
Race 6 – Majinka (#4)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1368188_06]
