First Race 12:36pm AWST

The Listed Belgravia Stakes and the return of rising superstar Amelia’s Jewel headline the action from Ascot Racecourse in WA on this nine-race program. Perfect conditions are set to greet punters, and despite the rail being out 8m for the entire circuit, there should be no excuses for fancied runners throughout the day. We kick off a competitive day of racing with the first field set to leave the barriers at 12:36pm AWST.

Belgravia Stakes Top Tip: Amelia’s Jewel

She was the talk of the town in her two-year-old season and on Saturday punters get to see the return of the undefeated Amelia’s Jewel. She won the Listed Supremacy Stakes on debut, backed it up in the Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes and what utterly breathtaking when saluting in the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate. Her last two wins saw her give her rivals a start and then an emphatic beating and if she is anywhere near those types of levels as a three-year-old, then the world is her oyster. All three starts have been at Ascot, so she knows the track well and with last start 3YO Classic winner Snowdome set to make this a genuinely run 1200m event, the race looks perfectly set up for Amelia’s Jewel to settle at the rear, build through her gears and ultimately prove too hard to hold out. The $2.20 being bet with online bookmakers looks a ridiculous price for such a classy conveyance.

Ascot Best Bet: Mystery Island

The Lindsey Smith-trained Mystery Island has won two of his four runs this campaign, including last time out when taking a sit of the speed and charging home late. He is a natural on-pace galloper so the way he won last time out showed he has some form of versatility and can be ridden cold if need be. That should not be the case on Saturday having drawn barrier one and with Brad Parnham on board, we expect to see this son of Victoire Pisa settle on the heels of the leaders who will make this a genuinely run 2200m event and as long as they do not fall in his lap on the home turn, Mystery Island has race fitness on her side and ultimately prove to be the superior stayer.

Best Bet

Race 4 – silks#6 Mystery Island (1)

5yo Gelding | T: Lindsey Smith | J: Brad Parnham (56kg)

$4.40 with Betfair

Best Value at Ascot: Short Talk

The Neil Dellar-trained Short Talk has been racing in fine form at Kalgoorlie in recent times and we expect the five-year-old mare to run a cheeky race up on speed at a big price. It is hard to knock the racing pattern of this five-year-old mare who settles up on the speed, offers a kick and tries her heart out. There is no doubting there’s a few queries around her Ascot record and her record at 1000m, but considering she is set to gain an uncontested lead throughout and can make this a breakneck speed out in front, we are happy to side with Short Talk at $16.00 with online betting sites early on in the card.

Best Value

Race 2 – silks#5 Short Talk (8)

5yo Mare | T: Neil Dellar | J: Brad Parnham (55kg)

$16 with Palmerbet
