Ascot races postponed due to warm weather

The nine-race program set down for decision at Ascot Racecourse in Western Australia has been postponed owing to soaring temperatures.

Announced on the social media platform ‘X’, the official twitter account for The Races WA confirmed the news.

“Please be advised that the meeting scheduled for Ascot on Saturday 13/1 will not proceed due to the extreme heat forecast,” the message read.

“Advice from BOM is that the forecast is now 41 and will endure at that temperature until the evening. Racing WA is currently working through contingency plans for the meeting and further advice to follow.”

Saturday’s meeting was set to be headlined by the Listed Miss Andretti Stakes worth $125,000, set to be run over 1100m, where the Luke Fernie-trained Wild Belle was a $2 favourite with top horse racing bookmakers.

An eight-race program is scheduled for Geraldton on Saturday afternoon, with no news through about the status of that meeting.
