What | Ascot races |
Where | Ascot Racecourse – 71 Grandstand Rd, Ascot WA 6104 |
When | Tuesday, November 5, 2024 |
First Race | 11:25am AWST |
Ascot will host a very competitive nine-race card this Melbourne Cup Day, with the first event scheduled to jump at 11:25am AWST. Although there is rain forecast on Tuesday, it shouldn’t affect the track much, and the Good 4 rating will hold up throughout the meeting. The rail will be pushed out to the +11m position for the entire circuit, which should play favourably to on-speed runners.
Burgess Queen Stakes tip: Divine Impact
Divine Impact has been impressive in both of his victories this preparation, making the jump from Maiden grade to a Class 1 Handicap with relative ease. In his most recent start, the Neville Parnham-trained gelding led from start to finish to claim a dominant win over 1400m at this track on October 16. In his fifth start, the son of Playing God will retain Chris Parnham once again, and from barrier seven, expect them to settle in the first four before peeling off the leaders heels to let down with a strong finish.

Best Bet at Ascot: Mythical Dream
Michael Grantham and William Pike will be seeking to kick off their Melbourne Cup Day with a win in the opening race when they combine with Mythical Dream in an 1800m contest. The son of Savabeel has been making up solid ground in the final 400m of his last two starts over 1400m, indicating that a rise in trip will suit him well. With William Pike getting back in the saddle after missing the last two runs, expect him to settle Mythical Dream midfield off the fence before letting rip with a blistering turn of foot at the top of the home straight.

Next Best at Ascot: Tactics
Tactics produced a brave run in defeat first-up off 24-week spell, when the Neville Parnham-trained gelding was made to race four-wide over 1200m and was only beaten 3.1 lengths in fourth place. Even though the son of Rommel had a torrid run, dropping back in trip to 1000m looks ideal for this lightly raced galloper. With good speed expected in this contest, Brad Parnham will settle off the rail in the first four from barrier five. If Tactics can carry his big weight (60kg) and find a back to follow around the home turn, he will prove hard to hold out late.
