The listed ANZAC Day Stakes is one of the featured events on the eight race card at Flemington on Sunday afternoon. The race has attracted a field of 15 2YO’s post scratchings and will be a highly competitive event as they race for $140,000. Horsebetting.com.au brings you the top odds, best bets and $100 betting strategy for the event set to kick off at 2:45pm AEST.

As is often the case in 2YO events, early speed is no disadvantage so expect the likes of Camaguey and Tramontana to be looking for the early supremacy. With Biscayne Bay and Identical expected to settle towards the rear of the pack.

Cheerful Legend has been putting solid enough form together in recent times to suggest he will go close to taking out the ANZAC Day Stakes. Despite finishing 3.5 lengths of Hunnam at Caulfield on April 10, the John Sadler-trained pulled up lame in the run. If we are to rule the line through that run his form stacks up remarkably well in comparison to his rivals. He was beaten under two lengths in the Group 2 Sires Produce with two runners out of that subsequently winning at their next start. If he brings that form to Flemington on Sunday he is certainly the one to beat.

If we are keen on Cheerful Legend’s chances on Sunday, we have to give respect to Hunnam from the Hawkes team who put an impressive gap on his rivals when winning at Caulfield on April 10. He had been mixing his form prior to that win, which included him chasing home the handy duo of Najmaty and Crystal Bound this campaign. From barrier 12 we expect Jye McNeil to try and get him across to the front of the field and settle outside the leader. He had his own way out in front at Caulfield, but is unlikely to get such favours here, however is one of the best horses in the race and will take some beating.

If you tie in the form around Hunnam and Cheerful Legend, the Peter Moody-trained He’s The Ultimate beat home Hunnam two starts back at Caulfield on April 3. From barrier one on Sunday he is expected to get a cozy run in transit, and if he is afforded any luck in the running then he certainly has the ability to charge through a gap and prove hard to hold out.
