First Race 2:21pm ACST

Pioneer Park will be hosting a five-race card this Sunday and our Northern Territory specialist brings you the race-by-race betting preview with the top tips and best odds available for the big day of racing. First race is set to start at 2:21pm local time.

Race 1 (2.21pm) – $22,000 Seppelt Wines Handicap (1200m)

Colhoun hasn’t finished out of a place in his past five starts at Pioneer Park and he in fact goes into the race with two last start wins. The 6YO gelding was victorious over 1200m (0-62) on Alice Springs Cup Day on May 1 before getting the cash over 1100m (0-64) on June 19. Colhoun takes on decent opposition in open company and will have to be at his best, but he drops 3.5kg in weight. As usual, Cyclonite and his stablemate, the ever-reliable Mathematics, should feature prominently when the whips are cracking. Colhoun’s stablemate Sedona has posted two wins and two seconds in his past four starts with his last start ending in success over 1100m (0-64) and a 3kg claim helps. Supreme Times is above average and before the Alice Springs Cup Carnival he was flying, and although he is in the mix he’s not racing well.

Race 2 (2.51pm) – $17,500 Ladbrokes Odds Boost Multi 0-58 Handicap (1200m)

Future Dreams has been a model of consistency since arriving in the Alice and suffered a last start second by 0.1 of a length over 1400m (0-58) a fortnight ago. The 6YO gelding drops in weight and all things considered he should be a major contender on Sunday. After arriving from Queensland in April last year, Future Dreams has had 16 starts for two wins, three seconds, three thirds, three fourths and two fifths – and that also includes a win in May 2021 over 1200m (Class 2) on Tennant Creek Cup Day. Me Cabo has posted two seconds and three thirds in his past five starts, so he has to be respected. Harbour Express was an impressive last start winner two weeks ago over 1100m (0-58) and has the luxury of a 3kg claim. Rhythmical is pretty handy and also benefits from a 3kg claim. Consider Distant Lover in your exotics. .

Race 3 (3.21pm) – $17,500 Daryl Braithwaite September 17 Maiden Plate (1200m)

Tycoons Dior will jump from a wide gate, but with an experienced hoop in the saddle she must be getting close to that first win after two seconds, three thirds and a fourth in six career starts. The 5YO mare had her first start at Pioneer Park in September last year in a 1000m maiden before disappearing and returning in April. Tycoons Dior has raced from 1000-1400m and in her last appearance over 1400m on June 19 she finished third behind Sirocco Gale. Former Victorian galloper Brat has been mooted as a serious threat after a first up fifth in the Alice behind Bartolini over 1200m (Class 2) on July 3. Lethal Encounter, who last raced on June 19, debuts in the Red Centre and brings respectable form Victoria. Abreha, Speed Wheel and Golden Battle can surprise. Hard Work Rewards returns after a last start fifth on July 1, 2017.

Race 4 (3.51pm) – $20,000 Mad Harrys 0-54 Handicap (1100m)

Lisa recorded three wins and a second in four starts at 0-54 and 0-58 level from 1000-1200m late last year before having a four month spell. The 7YO mare returned on Alice Springs Cup Day (May 1) and finished second behind Asahi Bearing over 1100m (0-70) before finishing fourth behind Like A Heartbeat over 1000m (0-70) on June 5. Dropping back to 0-58 level over 1100m on July 3, Lisa was far from disgraced when finishing second behind an impressive Harbour Express and a 3kg claim in her 29th start in the Red Centre on Sunday will help. Intercontinental posted back to back wins in February before hitting a brick wall in his past two starts, but is in the mix. Heart Of Red, Policy and Ananagram are capable of anything. Liberty Blue returns to Alice Springs after a last start ninth at Gawler on June 22.

Race 5 (4.21pm) – $18,500 CAAMA Radio 0-64 Handicap (1600m)

Radio Room was victorious over 1600m (0-64) in December and was spelled before finishing third behind Miles Prower over 1200m (0-70) on May 29. The 7YO gelding has posted six wins from 16 starts in the Alice after arriving from South Australia and he has had two wins from three starts over 1600m. Radio Room’s record over 1400m isn’t that bad either, so a win would not be unexpected despite spotting his rivals 3.5kg. Kyd Rock has only had one win over 1600m in 11 attempts, but he has seven wins in 25 starts at the track and is coming off a last start third behind Debbonaire Boy and Future Dreams over 1400m (0-58) two weeks ago. Morphling had been going OK before a last start sixth in that 0-58 race on July 3. Tredici seems to be getting back to his former best and Huckleberry makes a big step up in grade.
