Albury tips & form for Thursday, January 18

THE bordertown of Albury hosts a tight seven race card as the working week begins to come to a close.

There’s always plenty of quality gallopers running around at Albury and Thursday is no exception.

Let’s take a look at which horses we’re rolling with.

Race 1 – Maiden Handicap (1175m)

Brother Adam finished third behind the super impressive Lord Laurie on January 4 and should improve from that run. That was the first time in the horse’s 20 race career it recorded a placing, but we are backing the galloper to deliver a quality run on Thursday.

Race 1 tip: Brother Adam to win at Neds

Race 2 – Maiden (1400m)

Arthur Porrit is running for the first time since a fourth-placed finish at Seymour and we think the break will be a huge benefit. The horse has placed at the track, the distance and when fresh, so a good run seems like it will be in the offing.

Race 2 tip: Arthur Porrit to win at Crownbet

Race 3 – Class 1 Plate (1600m)

Grandes has placed in five-straight races, including its maiden win three starts back at this track. The horse has a terrific record at Albury, and while this is Grandes first attempt at the mile we believe it can breakthrough here.

Race 3 tip: Grandes to win at Sportsbet

Race 4 – Class 3 HanDicap (1400m)

Comrade Ned has two fourth-placed finishes and two wins from four races this preparation. While this horse has not recorded a win at the track or the distance in the past it has shown since resuming it has the ability to perform well around this mark.

Race 4 tip: Comrade Ned to win at Sportsbet

Race 5 – Benchmark 54 (1175m)

Whiskey Business was ordinary first-up at Tumut on Boxing Day but we believe it can bounce back in a big way here. The horse returns to a better suited distance, and jumps from an inside stall, which will allow it to utilise its early speed to dictate from the head of affairs.

Race 5 tip: Whiskey Business to win at CrownBet

Race 6 – Benchmark 70 (1000m)

Lord Denman has been performing well around this race grading in recent months and we think the four-year-old is a definite ratings riser. The horse has placed second-up in the past and based on the first-up second at odds we believe it has a massive chance of winning here.

Race 6 tip: Lord Denman to win at Neds

Race 7 – Class 2 (900m)

Brave Master is chasing a hat-trick and looks well placed to pull it off. The horse won well at Yarra Valley straight out of the maiden grade over the 1000m, and we believe it has the ability to win a third-straight here.

Race 7 tip: Brave Master to win at Crownbet
