Albury racing preview – March 19, 2021

The second and final day of the 2021 Albury Gold Cup Carnival will be run and won on Friday, and HorseBetting.com.au will again bring you all the best bets, quaddie numbers, and everything you need to know to fill your pockets ahead of another massive weekend of racing. The track at Albury is rated a Good 4, the rail is in the true position, and the first of eight races is set to jump at 1:15pm AEDT.

2021 Flat Knacker betting tips

The Flat Knacker is the other feature event on Albury Cup Day, with 14 sprinters going around over 900m. Cardiff runs out as the favourite and looks to be one of the best bets on the program. Drawn in barrier two, he will go straight to the front and be too hard to catch. While there is naturally a tonne of speed in a 900m dash, James Innes Jr’s mount has the favourable low gate to scoot through and save as much ground as possible. It looks a nice setup for the four-year-old gelding from the Kody Nestor yard.

Best BetRace 6 – Cardiff (#5) $2.70 with Sportsbet

2021 Albury Guineas betting tips

Nick Ryan can have a good day at Albury with Mahamedeis in the Gold Cup and Grand Pope in the Albury Guineas. The three-year-old’s win at Pakenham first up had to be seen to be believed; he came from near last in a 10-horse field in restricted room, only to sprout wings in the final furlong and get up by half a length. That race has already produced two subsequent winners, while Grand Pope has since been beaten just five lengths by the very promising Oxley Road. Up to the 1400m will suit, as will the drop back in class from a Group 3 to a Benchmark 70. He is a great each-way bet.

Best BetRace 5 – Grand Pope (#9) $13 with Sportsbet

Best Bet for Albury Gold Cup Day 2021

It would be fitting to see Albury-based trainer Mitch Beer round out the carnival with a win, and we think he can do just that with ex-European import Swagger. Since arriving in Australia, he has had two narrow seconds before winning in good style over the 1400m at this track last start. Out to the 1500m will suit him even more on Friday, as will the 3.5kg drop in the weights. Jordan Mallyon retains the ride and is likely to find a midfield spot aboard the five-year-old gelding from barrier 12. He can go back-to-back in this.

Best BetRace 8 – Swagger (#6) $4.60 with Sportsbet
