It is Albury Cup week in the border town, with Thursday’s seven-race card serving as a nice appetiser for Friday’s Gold Cup meeting. HorseBetting’s New South Wales form analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for the day, with all of the best odds from Sportsbet. The track is rated a Good 4, the rail is in the true position for the entire course, and racing gets underway on Thursday at 1:35pm AEDT.
BEST BET: Dunalley
David Brideoake and Joe Bowditch combine in the second race of the day with Dunalley, a three-year-old filly by Dandino. This six-start maiden galloper takes some solid Victorian form to the bush on Thursday, having come off the back of consecutive thirds at Pakenham. Two starts ago, Dunalley ran on well behind So You See who has Group potential, before running third to Tauty last time out. She is likely to get back from barrier 14, but we expect her to prove too strong over the 2000m.
NEXT BEST: Rivaldo
Dwayne Reid and Jamie Gibbons combine in the second leg of the quaddie with maiden galloper Rivaldo. The three-year-old gelding by Pride Of Dubai has won just one of his nine starts, but comes out of a couple of nice races around horses like Pounding and Sly Corner. The drop in weight to 56.5kg should suit this gelding, while the rise to 1400m can only be seen as a benefit. This looks a nice race for Rivaldo to get that second win on the board.
BEST VALUE: Swagger
Local trainer Mitchell Beer saddles up Swagger in the last race of the day in an Open Handicap over 1175m. The six-year-old gelding was a Class 3 Highway Handicap winner at Randwick back in May last year, and he has since had just three starts including a solid first-up fifth in the SDRA Country Championships Qualifier at Wagga behind Another One. He should take plenty of benefit from that hit-out, while he should relish getting back to his home track at Albury where he rarely runs a bad race. The $16 on offer looks over the odds.
