Apprentice Stephanie Thornton is continuing to make a mark during the summer in Melbourne, notching a winning double at Caulfield.

Thornton won Sunday’s Annette Daymon Handicap (2000m) early at Sunday’s meeting before closing out the day with a victory aboard Nasdex in the Jodie Taylor Handicap (1100m).

Sunday’s win was Thornton’s second from three rides on Nasdex who is trained by Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra.

“I actually thought he probably should have won last start as well but he didn’t have a lot of luck,” Thornton said.

“Albeit we sat outside the leader today, he still relaxed well and he finished off well again.”

The double took Thornton’s season total to 13 metropolitan wins.

Nasdex defeated Murphy’s Reward by half a length with a long neck to the fast-finishing Handsome Thief third.
