Caulfield Cup day free tips, form and odds, Saturday October 21

Caulfield tips

CAULFIELD will be rocking for the third time in a week this Saturday as the $3 million Caulfield Cup is set to excite the crowd.

The staying feature includes some of Australia’s best stayers, but the international raiders are out in force to take the Cup away from the locals.

Ciaron Maher and Jameka kept the Caulfield Cup on home soil last year, but with a large portion of the field belonging to international interests, it’s going to be a tough ask.

We have free betting tips, form and odds for the Caulfield Cup and the entire nine-race undercard, which includes the Caulfield Sprint, Ladbrokes Classic and the Tristarc Stakes.

Race 1 – Resimax Group Plate (1400m)

Our Crown Mistress is an impressive filly for the Waterhouse/Bott team which has won its last two starts. The daughter of Star Witness won by 1.25 lengths at Sale before winning easily by 4.25 lengths last start at Geelong. That was an all-the-way win in front and despite stepping up in grade, punters will likely take the $2.70 on offer.

Super Snob is an each way chance at $8 following its last start win. The three-year-old scored by 2.75 lengths at Bendigo in what was a dominant performance. This is a much harder task, but it gets a nice draw to jump from and it could contest the pace with the favourite.

Race 1 tip: Our Crown Mistress to win ($2.70) at Unibet.com.au

Race 2 – Gothic Stakes (1400m)

Snitzepeg scored an impressive win in the Poseidon Stakes at Flemington last start and it could continue that form here. The Darren Weir-trained colt relished the rise in distance to the 1400m after running second to Levendi at Mornington. That form is strong as Levendi was unlucky in the Caulfield Guineas, so consider the $7.50 to win here with Craig Williams in the saddle.

Beau Geste is the $3.60 favourite following a placing behind the unbeaten Viridine at Randwick. The James Cummings-trained colt by Street Cry has two midweek wins to its name, which might not be good enough to win in Saturday company, but the punters are confident. This does look slightly easier than the Roman Consul Stakes, but it will need luck to win.

Race 2 tip: Snitzpeg to place ($2.50) at CrownBet.com.au

Race 3 – Ethereal Stakes (2000m)

Pinot couldn’t have been more impressive when winning last start at Flemington. The filly by Pierro put almost four lengths on a field that included Anchor Bid and Think Diamonds. That’s very strong form for this, but it has drawn deep in barrier 19. That shouldn’t matter too much over this distance so expect a handy run at odds of $4.80.

Hiyaam lived up to expectations last start when running second in the Edward Manifold. The Mick Price-trained filly made good ground late along the inside to run within 2.25 lengths of Bring Me Roses and that form should stack up nicely for this. It has plenty of staying potential and that run will top it off nicely here.

Race 3 tip: Hiyaam to win ($7) at Neds.com.au

Race 4 – Ladbrokes Classic (2000m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1140338_04]

Tangled is a talented three-year-old for Chris Waller which was unlucky in behind Ace High in the Spring Champion Stakes last start. It was held up in behind runners and only got clear late to lose by a nose. That form looks very good for this and it has more exposed form than most in this field. $3.60 on offer from bookmakers.

Tavistock Abbey looks a nice stayer in the making having won its last two starts since stepping up over ground. The well-bred son of Tavistock won by almost four lengths over the mile in September before holding on to beat Main Stage by a nose at Flemington. Main Stage ($3.90) has since won so that form has been franked nicely and it’s paying much better at $6.

Race 4 tip: Tavistock Abbey to win ($6) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 5 – Coongy Cup (2000m)

Samovare has solid form this campaign and it has good form lines. The Lindsay Park-trained mare finished second in the Naturalism behind Harlem before running seventh in the Underwood behind Bonneval. That’s Caulfield Cup opposition and it gets in here with a light weight of 54kg.

Spectroscope is a four-time winner from 14 starts which battled well behind Classic Uniform in the Hill Stakes last start. Classic Uniform has since won the Craven Plate and Spectroscope has always had the ability to win on the big stage. The import has yet to run a bad race over this distance and it should get every chance with Williams in the saddle. It could be now or never.

Race 5 tip: Spectroscope to win ($5) at Neds.com.au

Race 6 – Moonga Stakes (1400m)

Danish Twist doesn’t support a flash form line, but punters know it’s better than that. The Kris Lees-trained six-year-old has struggled to find its best form this year, but a change of environment might help and it was only 1.4 lengths from the winner in the Golden Pendant. Carrying 54kg is going to help its cause and it’s the current favourite in an even field.

All Our Roads is a former Kiwi runner, now with Chris Waller. The six-year-old was good enough to run 1.2 lengths behind Sir Plush last start and it didn’t get much luck in the straight. Its form in New Zealand was only fair, but that could be good enough to win a race like this.

Race 6 tip: All Our Roads to place ($2.35) at CrownBet.com.au

Race 7 – Caulfield Sprint (1000m)

Property resumes here after winning the Kindergarten Stakes with ease last season. The Robert Smerdon-trained gelding scored impressive wins over the likes of Pariah, Azazel and Condor Heroes. Its only defeats came at the hands of Catchy and it has been well-rested for this start. This is a hot field which won’t help, but its ability must be respected at odds of $4.20.

Snitty Kitty was a torrent of early speed and that’s going to help over this short course distance. The professional four-year-old won well at Caulfield last time out and it has won three of its four starts over 1000m. That’s some record and dropping to 53kg is going to give it that extra boost here.

Race 7 tip: Snitty Kitty to win ($4) at Unibet.com.au

Race 9 – Tristarc Stakes (1400m)

Foxplay will enjoy not seeing the back end of its stablemate Winx for this run. The Waller-trained mare placed behind the champion runner twice already this campaign before running fourth behind Happy Clapper in the Epsom. That form is going to hold up well, but it will need to carry a bigger weight than it’s used to. That’s the main concern, but hot jockey Kerrin McEvoy rides which will catch punters attention.

Silent Sedition ran on well enough behind Keen Array last start to suggest it could win here, but luck will need to be on its side. The Andrew Noblet-trained five-year-old has drawn wide in barrier 18, but everything else reads well. It has yet to finish out of the money at Caulfield from five starts and it has won twice at this distance. It will likely head forward from the wide barrier.

Race 9 tip: Foxplay to win ($4.60) at CrownBet.com.au

Race 10 – Alinghi Stakes (1100m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1140338_10]

Nieta is a six-win mare which has good form lines this season. The John Thompson-trained mare finished 3.7 lengths behind In Her Time last start and its form prior came in behind The Everest winner Redzel. It’s better suited to rain-affected tracks, but it has been well-supported at $2.35.

Concealer runs best when fresh up and it hasn’t raced since March when it ran second behind Hear The Chant. The Tony McEvoy-trained mare has had some problems, but it has competed well against some speedy customers and there is some betting support. Follow the market for any significant betting moves.

Race 10 tip: Nieta to win ($2.50) at CrownBet.com.au
