Lady Shenandoah draws perfectly in Group 1 Surround Stakes
The 46th running of the Group 1 Surround Stakes (1400m) shares top billing as the first of two Group 1 features at Randwick on Saturday afternoon, with a field of 15 fillies set to do battle for the $750,000 prize.
The Chris Waller-trained Lady Shenandoah has been the long-standing $1.85 favourite with horse racing bookmakers for the event, and the confidence for punters will only grow after the star filly drew barrier three on Thursday morning.
James McDonald gets legged aboard in place of the suspended Zac Lloyd and must be considered the one to beat after storming clear of her rivals in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) on February 15.
Eight of the 15 runners engaged come through that form-line, including the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Lady Of Camelot, whose the only other runner in single digits, with $4.00 available on Neds after finishing off the best of the beaten brigade.
Lilac ($12.00) was a big winner post-barrier draw after securing gate four and could be one of the major speed influences in the race, while the likes of Manaal and Lazzura represent good each-way value with Dabble to turn the tables stepping out to 1400m.
The 2025 Surround Stakes is the first leg of the Randwick quaddie and is set to jump at 4pm AEDT.
