The Follow Files: Neasham & Archibald-trained stayer gets no luck

Follow Files blackbook tips

Group racing took place across the country last Saturday, with the Thousand Guineas meeting at Caulfield taking centre stage. Meanwhile, The Pinnacles carnival at Ascot kicked off with WA Champion Fillies Stakes Day, and Newcastle held its annual Hunter meeting. In this week’s edition of The Follow Files, we have found three runners that are worth putting in your blackbook ahead of the summer carnivals.

Newcastle

Track rating: Good 4
Rail position: True entire circuit

Race 9: Listed The Beauford (2300m) | Time: 2:23.36

  • Horse to follow: Naval College (3rd)

Naval College has produced two good runs since returning from a break and it is fair to say that he has returned in much better form this time in. The Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald-trained gelding competed in The Beauford second-up and received a dream run in transit; however, in the concluding stages, he was held up for a run before switching back to the inside running rail in the final 150m. Although some may say he had time to run down the leaders, the son of Dartmouth had to pick himself up and finish strongly to nab third place.

When to bet: Keep an eye out for where Neasham & Archibald send their gelding next. If he is entered in a similar contest over 2000m-plus, Naval College will be a major player.

Caulfield

Track rating: Good 4
Rail position: +6m entire circuit

Race 6: Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m) | Time: 1:11.32

  • Horse to follow: On Display (3rd)

After just two career starts, On Display from the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr stable appears ready to win. The daughter of Fastnet Rock was one of the best closers from the back of the field in the Thoroughbred Club Stakes at Caulfield last Saturday, when she ran home from third place. This three-year-old filly recorded the fastest last 1000m, 800m, 600m, 400m and 200m sections of the race, with her last two sectional times ranked inside the top 10 for the entire meeting. With starts at 1100m and 1200m under her belt, it looks as though this girl is looking for further now.

When to bet: The Listed Twilight Glow Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on November 30 looks like the ideal race for On Display to tackle in her next start.

Sunshine Coast

Track rating: Heavy 8
Rail position: +2m entire circuit

Race 9: Swiss Ace Plate (1400m) | Time: 0:58.27

  • Horse to follow: Cifrado (2nd)

Rex Lipp and Boris Thornton combined with Cifrado in the Swiss Ace Plate as he returned from a five-month spell, and after being well backed with horse racing bookmakers, he produced a strong effort in defeat. The son of Encryption doesn’t enjoy Heavy tracks; however, he settled near the rear of the field and let down with a strong turn of foot to challenge Shalaa’s Moment in the final 100m. This four-year-old gelding will take a lot of benefit from his fresh run and will appreciate a rise in trip to 1200m second-up.

When to bet: The Group 3 George Moore Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm on November 30 should be the next assignment, and if he gets a Good track, Cifrado will prove very hard to beat.
