What Sha Tin Races
Where Sha Tin Racecourse – Tai Po Rd, Sha Tin District, Hong Kong
When Sunday, November 17, 2024
First Race 12:30pm HKT (3:30pm AEDT)

Sha Tin is the destination for Hong Kong racing on Sunday afternoon, with three massive Group 2 events sharing top billing across a bumper 11-race program. The rail is in the B+2 position, and with no rain forecast on race-day, punters can expect a Good 4 surface. The action is scheduled to get underway at 12:30pm local time.

Jockey Club Cup Tip: Romantic Warrior

It’s simply too hard to be against Romantic Warrior as he returns in the Group 2 Jockey Club Cup (2000m). The son of Acclamation claimed five-straight Group 1 wins across three different countries last prepararion, including the Group 1 Yasuda Kinen (1600m) in Tokyo on June 2 before being tipped out for a spell. His latest barrier trial suggests there is no regression in this now six-year-old gelding, and with James McDonald on board from gate one, Romantic Warrior should justify the short price with Neds.

Jockey Club Mile: Galaxy Patch

Galaxy Patch couldn’t have been more impressive when saluting at this course and distance in the Group 2 Sha Tin Trophy (1600m) on October 13. The Wandjina gelding sat quietly towards the rear of the field before exploding down the centre of the course to score by 1.5 lengths eased down by Vincent Ho. Voyage Bubble appears to be the main danger with a swing in the weights; however, with Galaxy Patch likely to get all the favours from barrier five, it is hard to see anything turning the tables in the Group 2 Jockey Club Mile (1600m).

Jockey Club Sprint: Ka Ying Rising

Ka Ying Rising gave the Sha Tin 1200m record a mighty scare last time out, bounding away to score by 1.5 lengths in the Group 2 Premier Bowl (1200m) on October 20. The David Hayes-trained gelding meets most of his key rivals from that contest better off at the weights and appears primed to add a seventh consecutive victory to the resume. If Zac Purton can slide across from stall 10 and find cover, Ka Ying Rising will prove too classy once again.

Best Bet at Sha Tin: Fast Network

Fast Network should be undefeated heading into start four after running into trouble at Sha Tin on October 6. The Dennis Yip-trained gelding copped a severe check before running up backsides, yet he showed plenty of class and toughness to get within a half-length of Alpha One. Zac Purton gets the chance to make amends from gate 13, and with even luck, Fast Network should have no issues putting away this lot.

Best Value at Sha Tin: Johannes Brahms

Johannes Brahms will make his Hong Kong debut after more than a year off the scene, and the Irish import appears to have settled in well at the Pierre Ng barn. The booking of Zac Purton should inspire confidence, and although he needs to overcome barrier 14 after such a lengthy absence, expect Johannes Brahms to get every chance to make an impression at an each-way price with horse racing bookmakers.
