Land Legend will be another of the Chris Waller-trained runners that will represent the master trainers stable in the 2024 Melbourne Cup.

After surviving a protest scare following his Group 1 Metropolitan victory, the five-year-old gelding secured his spot in the Cup. The son of Galileo then went on to run third in the Caulfield Cup in his most recent start.

Can this talented stayer run out a strong 3200m and take out the time-honoured classic? Let’s find out.

When will Land Legend run in the Melbourne Cup

A full field of 24 competitors will assemble at a sold-out Flemington Racecourse on the first Tuesday of November, with an impressive $8.56 million prize pool up for grabs.

Among them, Land Legend will join 23 other hopefuls, each eager to make their mark in history by capturing victory in Australia’s premier handicap race.

Can Land Legend win the 2024 Melbourne Cup?

Land Legend was victorious in the Group 1 Metropolitan Handicap two runs back and backed it up with a third-place finish in the Caulfield Cup last time out. He simply never settled when racing along the rail with Zac Purton forced to come off the rail 900m to give him the clear air he desired. He should race much nicer on Tuesday having drawn barrier 18, and should have clear air whenever he pleases. Despite needing to make up five-lengths on Buckaroo, he looks more likely to see out the two miles, and is another who can be in the finish.
