Easter Handicap Top Tip – Habana
The time-honoured Group 3 Easter Handicap over the mile is where we find the best bet of the day in Habana – and there still might be a price to be found, such is the evenness of the contest. Habana has won his last two runs here courtesy of perfectly judged Warren Kennedy rides that have seen him arrive just in time to score with something in hand. The manner in which he runs out his races suggests the step up to a mile should be no problem, and from a handy draw he will be looking to keep his unbeaten track record intact.
Easter Handicap
Race 8 – #4 Habana (4)
4yo Gelding | T: Lance Noble | J: Warren Kennedy (57kg)
Best Bet at Pukekohe – Forever Young
Nothing went right for this fellow last start after being allowed to stride up early from his wide draw and then just overdoing it outside the leader, proving to be a tough first ride for his inexperienced apprentice. He has a much more experienced jockey on this time, and one that should be able to hold his head early on. This, along with the likelihood of a more suitable wet surface, should see this gelding, who has been unlucky on more than one occasion, finally breakthrough for that deserved maiden win.
Best Bet
Race 3 – #5 Forever Young (7)
4yo Gelding | T: Denise Jeffcoat | J: Joe Kamaruddin (58.5kg)
Next Best at Pukekohe – Rose ‘N’ Power
Rose ‘N’ Power has hurt punters on more than one occasion this prep, but she gets her chance to repay her loyal supporters in this 1200m sprint for the Open Class performers. She has drawn where she likes to be, on the fence, and early on in the day that can be a decided advantage. She also looks like getting an uncontested lead, and apprentice Tayla Mitchell does know how to rate them in front. She has tested our patience but gets her chance to set the record straight.
Next Best
Race 2 – #5 Rose ‘N’ Power (1)
5yo Mare | T: Fred & Lindsay Cornege | J: Tayla Mitchell (a2) (58kg)
