We head to Ascot Racecourse once again on a Saturday afternoon for a nine-race program, headlined by three listed events throughout the day. Horsebetting’s WA form expert has run his over the Grandstand Cup, Perth Stakes and Gimcrack Plate and has also found a best bet for the remainder of the program, with odds provided by Australia’s best betting sites. We’re set for a perfect day of racing with the track rated a Good 4 and the rail in the true position. Racing at Ascot, Western Australia commences at 12:23pm AWST (3:23pm AEDT).
Grandstand Cup Top Tip – Bruce Almighty
In the Listed Grandstand Cup, we are expecting the Neville Parnham-trained Bruce Almighty to bounce back from a poor showing last time out in a RTG72+. Prior to that seventh-place finish, the six-year-old gelding had not finished outside of the top three in his previous five outings. From barrier seven he looks set to settle outside natural race leader Majinika which should suit his racing pattern throughout the 1500m affair. The Playing God gelding has four wins and a runner-up finish to his name from four goes at the track and trip and with a genuine tempo expected throughout, it should suit him down to the ground on Saturday. With Chris Parnham continuing his strong relationship aboard Bruce Almighty, they look a great bet at $5.50 with Bet365.
Perth Stakes Top Tip – Snowdome
The opening leg of the quaddie is the Listed Perth Stakes and resuming from a four-month spell is the Neville Parnham-trained Snowdome. Having begun his career with consecutive runner-up efforts back in the spring behind the smart Revitup and Street Parade, he looks primed to come back with a win first-up from a spell. Having drawn the middle of the line from barrier six, we expect to see Snowdome take up the running in a race where there doesn’t look to be too much speed in the early stages. Chris Parnham will look to give the Rommel colt a cheap sectional where possible and fill the lungs up before the turn. Look for Parnham to ask him to quicken before the home turn and in doing so, we expect Snowdome to prove too hard to run down.
Gimcrack Plate Top Tip – Amelia’s Jewel
Fresh off a dominant debut win in the Listed Supremacy Stakes on March 5, the Simon Miller-trained Amelia’s Jewel looks one of the better bets of the day as she steps out in the Gimcrack Stakes. The Siyouni bay filly managed to settle in the one-one and when asked for an effort from Patrick Carbery was quick to put her rivals away and produced the quickest final 400m of the meeting. There is little doubt that she is a filly with above average ability and despite drawing out wide in barrier 12, we still expect she will be the one to beat. With speed drawn to her outside, Carbery is set to gain a cart across the field and should be able to land the filly in a prominent role. As she showed in the Supremacy, she quickens nicely and can put a couple of lengths on her rivals in a few strides and with natural improvement from her debut run, Amelia’s Jewel looks far too classy.
Ascot Best Bet – River Rubicon
The Steve Wolfe-trained River Rubicon has strung together three straight wins to begin his campaign to have his career record sit at four wins from five starts. The three-year-old gelding looks set to settle just off the speed in the small field of nine and from barrier seven should lob in the one-one where he can track into the race nicely on the back of a hot speed. His turn of foot is electric and with winning confidence behind him and a genuine will to win, it is hard to see how a field like this holds him out. We’re more than happy to take the $2.40 with online bookmakers.
