Night racing continues at Moonee Valley on Friday, and HorseBetting’s Victorian horse racing expert presents his best bets and quaddie numbers for the eight-race card. The track is rated a Good 4, although there is plenty of rain forecast in the lead-up to the meeting, while the rail is out 7m for the entire circuit. Racing is set to get underway at 5:15pm AEST.
Moonee Valley Best Bet: Sugartown
Danny O’Brien and Damian Lane team up with four-year-old mare Sugartown in the third as she pushes to make it a third win this campaign. Outside of a seventh behind Curran, the daughter of Shamus Award is yet to run outside of the top three from six runs in this prep, and she was a touch unlucky last time out when second to Madame Bolli at Sandown on September 8. This will be her first look around The Valley, which is the only query, but if she can handle that, she looks a clear best bet on the card. From barrier 11, ‘Frosty’ Lane will need a little luck to find a spot with cover close to the speed, but if that part goes well, it is hard to see how Sugartown gets beaten.
Race 3 – Sugartown (#3)Next Best at Moonee Valley: Easy Single
In the opening leg of the quaddie, we are once again with the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Easy Single over 955m. Despite it only being narrow margins in both wins this campaign, he has seemingly get home with plenty in hand. The four-year-old gelding comes to town with plenty of upside, and Josh Richards’ 3kg claim will see him around with just 58kg. If the predicted downpour does come, it will not worry us, as this guy has not run outside of the top two on rain-affected going. Richards will use barrier one to his favour and have Easy Single lead the field up, taking luck out of the equation. With the claim, expect him to kick clear and prove too hard to run down once again.
Race 5 – Easy Single (#7)Moonee Valley Value Bet: Serenaur
The Brent Stanley-trained Serenaur looks to have above-average ability based on his win at Ballarat on September 19. Having settled in the second half of the field, the three-year-old Star Turn colt produce a stunning turn of foot to hit the lead with 75m to go and went on to put three lengths on his closest rival. This BM64 looks quite a winnable one for Serenaur, especially if the track does not favour those up on speed too much. Blaike McDougall sticks on board, which is an added bonus, and with a touch of luck, Serenaur will prove hard to hold out once again. This is one to follow through the spring.
