What Ipswich Races
Where Ipswich Turf Club – 219 Brisbane Rd, Bundamba QLD 4304
When Friday, July 30, 2021
First Race 11:45am AEST

A bumper nine-race card is scheduled for Ipswich Turf Club on Friday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s Queensland racing expert has picked out his best bets and quaddie selections for the meeting. The track is rated a Soft 5, with the cutaway in play and the rail out 1100m to the 300m mark. Racing is set to get underway at 11:45am AEST.

Ipswich Best Bet: First Crown

First Crown had his first start for new trainer Brett Baker at Toowoomba on July 10, smashing his rivals by close to 4.5 lengths. He comes to Ipswich for the first time and gets a track that has been kind in recent times to backmarkers, so there should be no excuse for the four-year-old son of Hallowed Crown. Michael Cahill will jump on board for the first time, and we expect him to settle the former Snowden runner close to last, where he then can go through the gears at his own pace, loop the field and outgun them in the straight to add another win for his new stable.

Best BetRace 3 – First Crown (#4) $3.30 with Sportsbet

Next Best at Ipswich: Abdicating

Ben Hull sends his impressive last-start winner Abdicating to Ipswich following a soft win over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast on July 13. He managed to put close to two lengths on Shinshinto on that occasion, but the result could have been much better had he been able to extend fully through the line. Michael Cahill retains the ride on Friday, and from barrier seven they will need a touch of luck early on to find cover in the running. The grey gelding has a sharp turn of foot and should be too good for this lot in the second leg of the quaddie.

Next BestRace 7 – Abdicating (#1) $3 with Sportsbet

Ipswich Value Bet: Brook Hill

The Bryan & Daniel Guy-trained Brook Hill comes to Ipswich following a third-place finished at the Gold Coast on July 17 where he was held up at a crucial stage and still finished within 2.5 lengths of the winner. Prior to that he had chased home the smart Safeeya at Eagle Farm, and this race is no harder than those two previous starts. Stepping up to 1670m fourth-up from a spell, the four-year-old son of Hinchinbrook should be close to the speed from barrier six and hard to hold out.

Best ValueRace 8 – Brook Hill (#7) $5.50 with Sportsbet
