Sandown Hillside will host a nine race card on Saturday with the track rated a heavy 8 and the rail in the true position. The rail adjustment, it was out 12m for the mid-week meeting on June 2, could mean there is a bias towards runners on the rail early on the card. The Horsebetting.com.au Victorian form analyst presents his Sandown best bets, quaddie numbers and odds comparison, with the first set to jump at 11.40am.
Best Bet: Corner Pocket
Winning form is the best form and with five wins in a row and three to begin this campaign, Corner Pocket for Lindsey Smith looks a clear best bet on the program. It is hard not to like his racing pattern, he jumps sweetly from the barriers and then heads towards the front of the field where he looks to lead or takes a sit in the first four runners. From barrier 16, expect Declan Bates who has a record of 6:5-0-1 on board the son of Toronado to look for the lead from the wide draw. If he can settle in the running, he should be too quick for this BM84 with some black-type racing in the spring looking a certainty.
Race 8 – Corner Pocket (#8)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1371657_08]
Next Best: Hurtle
Tony McEvoy saddles up the two-year-old son of Captalist, Hurtle who is coming off a dominant debut victory on the Ballarat synthetic. Recent history has suggested that runners coming from synthetic surfaces have struggled when their next run is on turf but considering his bloodlines, he should be handling the wet conditions better than some of his rivals. From barrier three under the riding of Luke Currie, we expect the pair to lead this field of two-year-old’s up and prove awfully hard to catch with the rail looking the place to be early on the card. Hurtle is paying around the $4 quote with Australian online bookmakers.
Race 1 – Hurtle (#2)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1371657_01]
Best Value: Standoff
Considering Standoff, the three-year-old filly out of the Grant & Peter Dalziel stable was supposed to run in the Queensland Oaks but due to Covid restrictions she has remained in Melbourne. She steps up to the 1600m for this effort and with Carleen Hefel retaining the ride, the pair rate highly heading into this three-year-old event. After Hefel’s 3kg claim, they get in with 52kg and despite drawing wide, we expect Standoff to settle in the second half of the field and be savaging the line late to bring up back-to-back wins.
Race 7 – Standoff (#6)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1371657_07]
