HorseBetting.com.au brings you the best bets and top odds for the eight-race card at Townsville on Thursday afternoon. The track is rated a Soft 5, and the rail is in the +2.5m position from the 1000m to the winning post and then true for the remainder of the course. The first race will jump at 12:30pm AEST.
Best Bet: Gamboa
Trinity Bannon’s classy three-year-old Gamboa can return to the winner’s circle as he looks to keep his unbeaten record at Townsville intact. The son of Not a Single Doubt went on a four-race win streak which kicked off at this track and trip in his stable debut, but he has since just knocked up late over 1200m and 1100m. Back to 1000m on Thursday, the speedy type will be sent forward under Emma Bell from barrier six and should prove hard to catch.
Race 4 – Gamboa (#1)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1370383_04]
Next Best: Beau Jet
Beau Jet is one runner we would love to own. The nine-year-old gelding has won 13 of his 46 starts, including nine wins here at his home track. The age might turn some punters off, but Beau Jet has won four from his last five starts and reunites with regular rider Brad Pengelly. The Bill Kenning-trained gelding will have to lug 64.5kg in this 1000m Open Handicap, but he is all class and will have the ability to do it. If Pengelly can find cover from barrier seven, we expect the son of Jet Spur to be too classy for his rivals.
Race 6 – Beau Jet (#1)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1370383_06]
Best Value: Boom Gate
Andrew Cameron and Ash Butler combine in the penultimate with former New South Wales-trained galloper Boom Gate. The five-year-old son of Casino Prince finished fifth in a Highway race at Rosehill in August last year behind Tavion Prince – a recent Brisbane metropolitan winner – and made his presence known in his first North Queensland run last start. After settling last in a field of 12, Boom Gate flew home to run fifth, just 1.7 lengths behind Shepherd Of Fire. The step up to 1400m from 1200m should suit, and from barrier one Butler has the option to be closer in the run. This looks a nice race for the gelding.
Race 7 – Boom Gate (#3)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1370383_07]
