Ballarat Turf Club is set to host their first synthetic meeting of the year when an eight race is set to be run and won on Monday afternoon. As the synthetic track has shown in the past, runners with form on the track are always ones to follow with plenty of runners appreciating the unique track instead of the raina affected tracks we get during this time of year. HorseBetting.com.au brings you the best bets, top odds and free quaddie selections for the meeting getting underway at 1pm AEST.
Best Bet: #5 Frome The Stars
Mick Price saddles up the resuming Frome The Stars, who gets back to the track and distance where he was last successful in a race. The mare out of Zoustar has not won since that day on August 25, but is rarely far away from the finish. Dean Yendall hops on her back for the first time, and despite drawing barrier nine she will be worth the wait in the last on Monday. We expect her to drop out to the rear of the field from the gates, but with a well-timed run and a sustained sprint she should prove too hard to hold out late over the 1200m.
Race 8 – Frome The Stars (#5)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1369508_08]
Next Best:#3 Ceardai
The Brent Stanley-trained Ceardai has never raced in this rich a form in his career, and we anticipate a strong performance in his first go on a synthetic track. In his last six starts, he has not finished outside of the top three, and has two wins to his name in that period. It is rarely a disadvantage to be up on speed on the synthetic, and from barrier seven we anticipate Jamie Mott to settle the son of Mastercraftsman outside the leaders’ girth. The extra 250m from his last start second at Kyneton looks ideal and with some of his rivals questionable over 2100m, Ceardai is the one we want to be with in the opening leg of the quaddie.
Race 5 – Ceardai (#3)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1369508_05]
Best Value:#2 Nine Clouds
The synthetic track specialist of last season Nine Clouds is set to appreciate getting back to his preferred surface. He strung together three consecutive victories with big weights this time last year on this surface, and despite struggling this time in, we expect a much improved performance. The Mick Cerchi-trained seven-year-old will look to race up on speed throughout, and despite needing to carry 63.5kg we anticipate a much improved effort on Monday in the second leg of the quaddie.
