Race 1 THE AGENCY REAL ESTATE HANDICAP (2400 METRES)

The stayers get their chance in the opener on Saturday with a 2400M Benchmark 78. Harpo Marx comes into this with some very solid form, winning three of his last five and placing in the other two performances. Last time out he finished second to Great House who looks pretty smart. With just 59kg and the extra 400m, the son of Galileo looks very hard to beat in the opener.

Race 2 SILVERDALE FARM PIERRO PLATE (1100 METRES)

Race 2 sees a field of 13 two-year-olds line up over 1100M in the Pierro Plate. Headliner was very good on debut when second to Stay Inside who she meets again here albeit 1kg better off at the weights. The Chris Waller-trained Star Turn filly got a fair way back over on the inside on debut and once she found clear air the race was all but over, but she worked home really well late. Up to 1100m will suit her, and the nice gate in three gives her every chance. Stay Inside ran good time on debut so is a logical threat, while King of Sparta looked all over a winner until the promising Hilal nailed him on the post at Randwick-Kensington 10 days ago.

Race 3 TAB HIGHWAY CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1800 METRES)

Lamington Drive was far from a pleasant watch for favourite backers last time out at Canberra when the odds on pop was seemingly the first horse beaten in the field of four but he rallied back and got over the top of Aesop’s Fable who has since run very well. Hugh Bowman goes aboard here which is an advantage, and the middle draw (8) should him settle down in the first half a dozen. There looks to be a bit of speed on paper with the likes of If You Think So who won a similar race in good fashion a fortnight ago, and Hot Bahama and Saint Ay who will also be handy. Birdonawinningpost has done everything right to date, and Diorissima can run a bold race if she gets a start.

Race 5 ACY SECURITIES HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

Keen on two here, so we will be backing both and hoping for a collect. Scarlet Dream looks a great each-way bet from the inside alley under Brenton Avdulla, especially if the rain misses Randwick. She hasn’t raced since running eight in the Pakenham Cup in December, but has been back to the trials where she was good despite it being over 1000m. When first-up, she has run second four times, and one of her wins has come at the mile. If the rain stays away, she is our main bet in this. The other we are keen on is race favourite, Canasta. The Bjorn Baker-trained gelding has been very good in both runs this campaign and he is going to get it all his own way out in front once he crosses from the outside alley. He drops 2.5kg off his last win and up to the mile is bound to suit. We might get $4s about him yet too.

Race 9 RANVET HANDICAP (1300 METRES)
The last race of the day has one of the better bets for the entire day in it in our books. We highlighted James Cummings’ Subedar as a horse to watch this campaign in his first-up run and he didn’t let us down by running a ripping second to All Time Legend who is very handy. That was his first run for over a year so it was pleasing to see how well he let down late out under the arches. He has been back to the trials since that run and placed fourth to Written Beauty and Dirty Work. Drawn barrier 6 under Hugh Bowman, he can get a perfect run behind a hot speed and finish right over the top to get the punters out late.
