WJ Adams Stakes 2021 betting preview

The Listed WJ Adams Stakes over 1000m is one of the featured events on the eight-race card at Caulfield on Australia Day. The $140,000 race has attracted a strong field of 10 for what promises to be one of the best renewals for some time. The winner in 2020 was the muddy marvel Jungle Edge, and the weather forecast for Tuesday suggests form in the wet could prove beneficial once again.

All Banter comes to Caulfield in red-hot form this campaign and boasts an impressive career record. She settled up on speed in her second-up run at Moonee Valley on November 28, and Craig Williams will no doubt adapt a similar approach from barrier six here. She is yet to finish outside of the quinella on rain-affected going and has two wins from three starts on dry ground, so the conditions shouldn’t hurt her chances either way. Fresh off an eight-week break, the three-year-old filly will make sure that it is a genuinely run 1000m dash and will be the one to catch.

Riding The Wave was a touch disappointing in the Listed Chester Manifold when going around as an odds-on favourite. He looked to have excuses when over-racing throughout yet only went down by a length and a half. This will be his first run over 1000m, and the projected fast tempo should suit his on-speed racing style. If the rain does come, the Lindsey Smith gelding’s odds will shorten due to his impressive wet form in New Zealand prior to coming to Australia.

Prezado from the Ellerton & Zahra stable had huge wraps on him when resuming this campaign, but he has not been able to break through for a win. He was left a little flat footed when the tempo lifted last weekend in the Listed Kensington Stakes, although he did run into a handy one by the name of Fabergino. From barrier three he maps to get the run of the race just off the leader’s heels, and a bit of rain certainly will not hurt his chances.
