We are four weeks away from the Golden Slipper, so the key lead ups are well and truly under way. This weekend, 10 runners will face the starter in the 1100M Group 2 Iron Jack Silver Slipper Stakes. Home Affairs and Paulele currently share favouritism, while Tiger Malay, Dio and Zethus sit in single figures. Direct and Paulele will cross over to the lead from their wide gates, while Home Affairs will also boot through with Rocket Tiger from their inside draws, Zethus should land in a great spot just off the speed.

Zethus has been disrespected by the market at $12 in our opinion, given both career runs to date have been very good. He got a long way back and found little room on debut when second to Remarque, and then won the Canonbury on a Soft 7 at this track and distance three weeks ago, beating Home Affairs who is half his price in this. Rachel King stays aboard the Exceed And Excel colt and should be able to have him settle in the third pair just off the speed. He is a fantastic each-way bet.

Coolmore-owned Home Affairs had every chance on debut when second to Zethus when race fitness just got the better of him late. Trained by Chris Waller and to be ridden by James McDonald, the I Am Invincible colt should either hold out the challengers for the lead, or be ridden a touch quieter and box seat from the inside alley. He was cuddled for a long way on debut which may have hindered his winning chances, but if can be ridden with cover and be produced at the right time, he may be too good with the fitness under his belt now. Looks the class.

James Cummings’ Paulele has done nothing wrong to date, winning both of his starts by 2L. On debut, he gave them windburn around The Valley, sitting off the speed and pulling away to score comfortably, before coming to Sydney where he won over 1200m to justify favouritism. Drawn out in gate 9 under Hugh Bowman, he will have to work early to find a spot near the lead which could find him out late. We slightly question the opposition that he has beaten, so we can’t have him that short, but he can only beat what is put in front of him and the stable must be respected.
