Friday will see the running of the Listed Scone Cup, and a quality field of 16 has been assembled for the $200,000 feature. The 1600m start at Scone is forgiving, with a long 600m back straight that gives horses drawn wide plenty of time to find cover. With speed from Cuba, Mr Dependable, Toryjoy and Two Big Fari, we should see a genuinely run race. Royal Celebration is the $6 favourite ahead of Laure Me In at $6.50. 2021 Scone Cup betting tips

Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou saddle up Bottega, who is looking for his first win in almost 12 months to the day. The son of Snitzel resumed in the Newcastle Newmarket and was a winner everywhere bar the post, before running third in the Doncaster Prelude behind Yao Dash and Mr Sea Wolf. In his most recent start he failed to beat a runner home at Randwick after being ridden further forward than usual; he over-raced and did a bit wrong, so we are happy to forgive that. He steps up to 1600m, which should suit, and the lovely barrier (4) is ideal for Tommy Berry to let the rest of the field sort their positions out around him. We want to be with him at the $12 quote.

Pandano has been racing in a rare vein of form in 2021, having won twice and been runner-up in two other races in his past four. The Paul Perry-trained four-year-old was sent around as favourite in the Provincial Championship Final at Randwick three weeks ago and was only beaten 0.2 lengths by Crystal Breeze. The son of Dundeel trialled earlier in the month and was given a soft time of it, which would have brought him on perfectly. He is a winner at the mile and gets every chance to be in the box seat under Josh Parr from barrier three. There is no reason why he cannot return to the winner’s stall on Friday.

We are pretty surprised to see $31 about Two Big Fari. The Todd Howlett-trained gelding has won seven of his 14 starts, and although he finished sixth last start in the Tamworth Cup, he was only 0.6 lengths off the winner. He went into that race second-up but had four weeks between runs, so he no doubt felt the pinch late after doing a bit of work early. He has drawn poorly in barrier 18, but he will come in three after emergencies are scratched, and the big back straight at Scone will give him plenty of time to work forward and slot in under Mikayla Weir. He is well weighted and will stick it out for a long time.
