Liverpool City Cup betting preview – 27 February, 2021
The 2021 Liverpool City Cup sees 11 gallopers compete at Group 3 level over 1300m in one of the first lead-ups for the second- and third-tier gallopers towards the Doncaster Mile on April 3. Criaderas, Greyworm and Discharged are $4.60 apiece, while Trumbull and Deprive sit on the fourth and fifth lines of betting in single figures. Greyworm and Discharged are likely to lead this field up, while Criaderas’ racing pattern is to get back.
Despite the ugly map, we are with the lightly raced four-year-old in Criaderas (#10). James Cummings has declared him one of the stable’s top hopes for the Doncaster should he qualify, so they will be hoping to boost his rating with a win here. He has never missed the placings in four starts at Randwick and is unbeaten when first up from a spell, so he should be ready and rearing to go. He is drawn well in barrier five and will get back under Rachel King, who rode a double in the Royal Blue on Saturday. He can get up over the top of them.
Greyworm (#1) maps the complete opposite to our top elect, which could play in his favour late. Drawn in barrier eight, Tommy Berry will come over and sit in behind Discharged in search of a lovely cart into the race. He wasn’t beaten too far when first up at Caulfield behind Prophet’s Thumb and should improve into his second-up run here. The three-time Randwick winner will be in this for a long way and will take some getting past.
Think It Over (#5) is massive overs in this at $51 given he races brilliantly when fresh, is undefeated over 1300m and has only missed the place three times from nine starts at Randwick. The Craven Plate winner should get a great run under Glen Boss from the inside alley and will be forward enough after two trials in preparation for this. He has been completely overlooked by the market, in our view.
