Kewney Stakes betting preview

The Kewney Stakes rounds out Super Saturday at Flemington with a field of 11 three-year-old fillies competing for $200,000 over the mile. The VRC Oaks winner from the spring, Personal, has opened as a $3 favourite on the back of a second-placed finish in The Vanity on February 13. The winner of the 2020 Kewney Stakes was Rubisaki when saluting as favourite.

The clear leader in the race looks to be Safe Passage from barrier two, with the likes of Miss Guggenheim and Personal expected to be towards the rear of the field. The 2021 Kewney Stakes is set to jump at 5:20pm AEDT.

With Safe Passage expected to provide a genuine tempo throughout, the staying nature of Personal (#1) will prove beneficial over the concluding stages. Expected to settle at the rear of the field, look for the favourite to be rounding up the field and letting down strongly at the 200m mark. Even if he does not get the fast tempo he wants, we still expect Personal to be too classy for this handy field.

Chica Fuerte (#3) worked home nicely down the outside in the Angus Armanasco Stakes and should appreciate the step up to the 1600m, which should see her finishing off strongly alongside our top selection. If she can see out a strong 1600m, then there is no doubt she will be in this right up to her neck. Her Ethereal Stakes win in the spring is a solid guide for this.

Yes Baby Yes (#2) was a tough on-pace victor in the Angus Armanasco Stakes when holding out a fast-finishing Malicorne. She will appreciate getting out to the mile, where she has won in the past unlike some of her key market rivals. If we were racing on a softer track than what is expected on Saturday, we would most likely have her on top, but on a firmer deck she is still a genuine trifecta chance.
