It is a cracking card at Caulfield on Saturday and one of the features is the Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes over 1200m for Fillies and Mares at Group 3 level. Snapdancer is the current favourite, ahead of Sierra Sue and Epsom winner, Probabeel. Lashes, Sierra Sue and Des Moines will be battling for the early lead, while the likes of Snapdancer and Probabeel will get nice runs in behind.

1200m first-up for a genuine miler is a slight concern, but we are putting the class of the field on top here in the hope that the cream will rise. New Zealand mare Probabeel had a stellar Spring Carnival, winning the Bill Ritchie and the Epsom, before being beaten less than 5L in the Cox Plate. She tends to go well first-up and is a two time winner over the 1200m, so she should be too good. The wide alley and top weight is a slight disadvantage, but she will get back under Damian Lane and be finishing off the better.

Snapdancer is a deserving favourite and the clear danger to Probabeel in our opinion, so she goes in for second here. The Maher & Eustace-trained mare won two straight in style at the start of this prep, before running third, beaten half a length on the Gold Coast when wide throughout. Back to 1200m will suit, as will the weight advantage over Probabeel and the great gate (4). If she catches the breaks, she might be too far in front of Probabeel to be reeled in. Snapdancer is paying $3.20 with leading Australian bookmakers.

Mamzelle Tess is as honest as the day is long, and she gets a nice enough set up here. Jye McNeil has a terrific affiliation with the eight-year-old. She goes well at Caulfield and has placed multiple times over the 1200m when fresh. From barrier 6, she will get a nice run in transit, and will no doubt be hitting the line strongly. She has trialled well during the week at Geelong to sharpen her up for this.
