The 2021 Group 3 Breeders’ Stakes is one of the featured events on Saturday afternoon’s nine-race card at Morphettville. Despite the majority of the card being raced on the Parks track, the last two races including the Breeders’ Stakes will be run and won on the main course at Morphettville. Expect the pace to come from the outsider Valentigra, who looks to get a soft lead out in front, with the likes of Knightstown and Champagne Dreams tipped to be close to the speed throughout the running. It was hard not to be encouraged by the way Isles Of Avalon savaged the line on her debut in the Listed Dequetteville Stakes on April 10. The Toronado filly settled in the second half of the field and was hitting the line nicely to go down by under half a length to Cloudy, who she meets again here. From barrier two under riding from Blaike McDougall, expect the filly to settle closer to the speed on Saturday and then put this field away when asked for an effort.
The one our top pick will need to get past is the one who beat her last time in Cloudy. The Godolphin filly had chased home the smart Starry Legend in her start prior to her win in the Dequetteville Stakes. From barrier one, she should be close to the speed throughout, and considering she drops half a kilo from her last-start win, she will be hard to go past in the concluding stages.
A runner who looks to be over the odds is Champagne Dreams. She was well beaten in the Dequetteville Stakes when taking a sit in the running, but her all-the-way win on debut showed she has plenty of ability. If she can head to the front of the field this time, she could potentially outrun this lot at a big price. Cases can also be made for the likes of He’s Xceptional and Karacasu, who both have shown plenty of talent to begin their careers.
