Blue Diamond Preview Fillies betting tips

The featured event for the Australia Day card at Caulfield on Tuesday is the Group 3 Blue Diamond Preview for the fillies. The $160,000 race has attracted a field of 11 to battle it out over the 1000m sprint. The favourite is the Anthony Freedman-trained Frost Flowers with odds of $2.30 at online bookmakers. A Beautiful Night won the 2020 Blue Diamond Preview for the Maher & Eustace stable and went on to finish ninth in the Blue Diamond Stakes.

The resuming Dosh was an impressive winner on debut on November 5 down the Flemington straight. What made that win so impressive was how she essentially went from the rails to the middle of the track with 200m when ducking out, yet managed to balance up and charge through the line. The Grahame Begg filly is set to go around a bend under race conditions, but she is clearly a speedy type. From barrier one we expect the in-form Jordan Childs to keep her along the rails in the lead. If Dosh gets a quiet time out in front, she should be too quick for them to catch.

A debut win does not come any more convincing than the way Frost Flowers got the job down the Flemington straight on New Year’s Day. She settled just off the leader’s heels, hit the front with 250m to go and barely got out of second gear to win by a length and a half. It is yet to be determined whether she beat any kind of quality besides the runner-up that day, but she will be thereabouts in this. Jamie Kah retains the ride, which is a huge bonus given she and Freedman strike at 39% together.

Tayla’s Moment was the one that finished runner-up to Frost Flowers on debut at Flemington on January 1. On that day she led the field up and fought gamely to the line despite being challenged over the final 250m. Although she went down by a length and a half that day, the quinella put a significant gap on the remainder of the field. The disparity in odds between the two runners may be a slight touch of overs for Tayla’s Moment, who can find a seat outside the leader and run a big race at nice each-way odds.
