Bendigo Guineas betting preview

The Bendigo Guineas for the three-year-old runners is one of the features on the nine-race card at Bendigo for Golden Mile Day on Saturday afternoon. A field of 11 is assembled to battle it out for the $150,000 following the scratching of Scream Dream from the Lloyd Kennewell stable. The smart Annavisto is the $2.90 favourite for this year’s Bendigo Guineas coming off a runner-up performance at Flemington on March 6. With pace drawn to the outside of the field, expect one of the outsiders in the field, Ornamental Lady, to take up the running, with Palace Whisper and Air Defence not too far away.

It is hard to ignore the last two runs that the favourite Annavisto has put together this campaign. The Mick Price-trained Reliable Man filly went down by the barest of margins at Flemington three weeks back and looks hard to go past in the Bendigo Guineas with Jamie Kah on her back. From barrier eight we expect Annavisto to settle midfield, one off the rails. With the long straight that Bendigo possesses she has plenty of time to build through the gears, and once she reaches top speed it will take something special to hold her out.

One of the lesser-known horses in the field is the Jason Warren-trained Seb Song, who has two runner-up performances and a win to his name from three starts. The last time we saw the Sebring gelding, he put away his rivals with distinct ease in a BM70 at Moonee Valley on November 28. Seb Song has a strong starting-price profile already in his lightly run career, and if the stable has him ready to go first up, he looks a natural danger to the favourite.

The other wildcard in the race is the Hawkes-trained Military Parade, who comes to the Bendigo Guineas with above-average Sydney form that includes a smart win at Canterbury last time out on February 19. He has drawn to do no work from barrier two, and if he can handle the step up to Listed level, there is no reason why Military Parade cannot be fighting out the finish.
