The 2021 Australasian Oaks is the first Group 1 race of the Adelaide Racing Carnival and the joint-featured event on the nine-race card at Morphettville on Saturday. A capacity field of 16 has accepted for the 2000m event, with three emergencies waiting for any withdrawals in the lead up to the race.

We expect the Tasmanian filly Hela to lead the field throughout the race, with Brookspire settling close to the speed from barrier seven. Look for Steinem and Mozzie Monster to take up positions towards the rear of the field.

HorseBetting.com.au brings you the best odds, top tips and betting strategy for the Group 1 Australasian Oaks, which offers a prize pool of just over $500,000.

Australasian Oaks betting tips

Steinem may have finished fourth in the Group 3 Auraria Stakes as a $1.60 favourite, but her run was quite remarkable after settling a clear last. She gave her rivals too much of a head start but worked home nicely to go down by three quarters of a length on the line. She comes up against a fair number of the rivals she faced at that last start, and with the extra 200m on Saturday it is hard to see her getting beaten. Steinem goes around as a $5 second-favourite, and if she is within six lengths of the lead at the 800m, she should be too good for this strong Oaks field.

The one our top tip will need to catch is the unbeaten Tasmanian filly Hela. From seven starts she has kept a flawless record in the Apple Isle, so she will take some catching in her first go on the mainland. We have no doubt she will run a strong 2000m out in front and give a good sight. The distance will be no issue for the Scott Brunton-trained filly, who has already won at 2100m in her career. The query on her is she tends to get a quiet time out in front under no pressure and simply runs the race to her liking. David Pires sticks, which is an added bonus as Hela looks to keep her unbeaten record intact.

One to keep an eye on at big odds is Media Award, who was a dominant winner in a strong Benchmark 64 at Geelong on April 20. The Shamus Award filly has shown this campaign that she is tactically versatile, having won when settling well back first up and then backing it up when sitting close to the speed at Geelong. If Luke Nolen can get her some cover from the wide barrier (13), her sharp turn of foot could bring her right into this. This one looks to have plenty of untapped ability.
