2020 Schweppervescence Plate Horse Betting Preview
The Schweppervescence Plate for three year olds opens the Early Quaddie on Melbourne Cup day down the straight over 1000 metres. It has attracted a small field of nine of Super Vobis qualified gallopers but it does look a highly competitive race despite the small field.
The Schweppervescence Plate will jump at 12:00pm AEDT.

#1 Hard Landing (1)
The Dabernig and Hayes team has enlisted the services of Kerrin McEvoy to get their colt back into form with a win in the Schweppervescence Plate. He drops back in grade after competing in the Danehill Stakes and then the McNeil Stakes prior. In those races he has chased home the likes of Doubtland, Ranting, Flying Award and Tagaloa and has been far from disgraced in those runs. He drops back to 1000 metres where he is two from two at the trip, including a win on Cup day last year when defeating Tagaloa in the Maribyrnong Plate, his best performance will simply be too good for this field and he gets the blinkers on for the first time.
#2 Mr Moppett (4)
After being ultra impressive on the country circuit in NSW, Phil Sweeney sent his 3YO gelding to a TAB Highway at Randwick a fortnight ago and was far from disgraced on his debut at a metropolitan circuit to finish in the first half of the field. That sixth place finished was his first run outside of the placings, and despite having minimal city exposure he is well in the market here. He has one of the sharper turns of foot in the country scene, it is just left to be seen if he can measure up in a city race.
#3 Alleboom (9)
Richard and Chantelle Jolly bring their 3YO colt to Flemington for the first time in his career after he has been mixing his form in the metropolitain circuit in Adelaide. We’re happy to forgive his last start at Morphettville where he was trapped wide with no cover in a quickly run race. He will be up on pace eyeballing Hard Landing, and it may come down to the battle of the fittest in the concluding stages. We’re happy to let him go around, because it is unknown how much his last run took out of him.
#4 Harlem Blues (6)
The Snowden team opted to send Harlem Blues around on the Synthetic surface during the winter months and it looked to the eye that he was too good for those types of races. He is back off a three month freshen up and tackles this first up for his first city run in his career. He gets the crossover noseband on for the first time and with Mark Zahra on board, it’s easy to see why he is well in the market based on his form during the winter.
#5 Bixilon (3)
One of the rank outsiders of the small field will need a lot to go his way to feature in the finish here. Before heading to the paddock he was well beaten at Caulfield during the winter after running into the minor money on debut. He gets Damian Lane onboard who knows how to get the best out of his rides, but he is still one we’d be steering clear of.
#6 Seeress (6)
George Osborne and John Allen team up with this filly who is back after an eleven week lay off after a disappointing run in the Quezette Stakes after experiencing some market support on the day. Prior to that she was seemingly a good thing beaten at The Valley after getting crunched in the betting and looked like the winner if she got some galloping room in the home straight. She was a soft winner on the Synthetic prior to the run at The Valley, and if she can get a bit more luck on Tuesday, she should be fighting out the finish.
#7 Jungle Sensation (2)
Andrew Homann will be looking to build on this fillies maiden win last time out at Pakenham where she was able to overcome a poor start to her career to win in impressive fashion. She goes from a Maiden at Pakenham on a Friday night to a race on Melbourne Cup day at Flemington and looks to be one of the better roughies in the race based on that win. If she can build through the gears as she did at Pakenham, then there is no reason why she can not be running into First Fours and trifectas.
#8 Longduan (8)
It’s hard to make a case for a galloper who was defeated on debut by nearly 15 lengths earlier in the year and then got very tired late at his second career start nine days ago in an easier race than this at Morphettville. She looks to be one of the leaders in the race, but her last 200 metres will be a cause of concern for connections.
#9 Echoes In Eternity (8)
The Michael Hickmott trained filly was unwanted in betting on debut at Morphettville nine days ago, but looked to have plenty of ability when producing an electric turn of foot to just miss. She will be one of the backmarkers in the race but she shouldn’t get as far back as she did on debut on Tuesday. She clearly has the best sprint in the race, and if the leaders provide a genuine tempo she will prove hard to hold out at nice odds.
