2017 Sunshine Coast Guineas betting with form, odds and free tips

Sunshine Coast Guineas

THE sunny Sunshine Coast is the destined for the Brisbane winter carnival this week and we have form, odds and free tips for every race.

Included on the card is the Sunshine Coast Guineas where a talented field of three-year-olds will compete over the 1600m distance.

The likes of Acatour, Zamex and My True Love are all in action and it promises to be one of the must-watch races of the carnival.

Also featuring on the nine-race card is the Glasshouse Handicap and the Caloundra Cup where punters have already launched into the competitive betting fields.

If your runner finishes second or third in the first four races at Sunshine Coast, Sportsbet.com.au will give up to $50 in bonus bets. That’s a great offer to start what should be a great day on the punt.

Race 1 – XXXX Handicap (1000m)

Badajoz has been knocking on the door its last couple of runs and it meets an easier field here. The Darren Beadman-trained four-year-old fought well behind Sir Plush at Rosehill last start and despite rising in grade for this, the opposition isn’t as fearsome. The barrier draw of eight is a worry over the short course distance, but the $3 suggests it has a high chance of winning.

Forget Invincible Express even went around at Doomben in the Lightning last start. The David Vandyke-trained mare was held up the entire straight and it never got a crack at them. Its form prior included a placing behind Rare Occurrence and three consecutive wins as it went through the grades. This would be another rise in class, but it stays nicely weighted at 54kg and it has form on this track.

Race 1 tip: Badajoz to win ($3) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 2 – Summerveld Racing Stables Handicap (1600m)

Blackjack Bella returned to form with a last start win at Gold Coast where it defeated subsequent winner Court’s Star. The Vandyke-trained mare was showing consistent form prior to breaking through and it returns to a track where it has won and placed from two starts. It has yet to win at the mile from six attempts, but it has been threatening and it should go close in an even betting affair.

Save The Date is a Kiwi runner with promise and it has been well-found in the market. The Lance Noble-trained three-year-old scored a one-length win on this track last start which was an encouraging run considering the travel factor. It was considered good enough to run in the Eulogy Stakes at Awapuni last year and that form should stack up well if the track isn’t too dry.

Race 2 tip: Save The Date to win ($3.60) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 3 – Butler McDermott Lawyers Handicap (1400m)

Strindberg has been out of the winners enclosure for awhile now, but we can’t leave it out at this level. The Matthew Dunn-trained four-year-old is a regally-bred son of Fastnet Rock which promised plenty early on, but the form has tapered off significantly since. It won’t get any favours from out wide in barrier 20, but it has been specked at each way odds and it doesn’t get much easier than this so expect improvement.

Natural Black has been the best backed runner at $5 following its last start fourth on this track. The Liam Birchley-trained three-year-old has won twice on this track which is a big positive and it has been able to handle all conditions in the past. It went to the Vo Rogue Plate where it was found wanting, but this is a big drop in class and it should start stringing good performances together.

Race 3 tip: Strindberg to place ($2.25) at CrownBet.com.au

Race 4 – Wimmers Premium Soft Drinks 2YO (1200m)

Ours To Keep hasn’t shown the same ability it showed as an early two-year-old, but this isn’t the same quality of field. The Chris Munce-trained colt looked good when winning its first three races, but the quality of that opposition has come into question and its most recent efforts haven’t been impressive. A dry track could be its calling card so if conditions suit this Saturday the $4.60 on offer will likely firm in.

Acceptile is the current $4 favourite after showing good form throughout its campaign. The Mark Webb-trained two-year-old finished 1.5 lengths behind Revenire at Ipswich and that should be a good form guide for future racing. It didn’t have all favours in the run from out wide and that’s likely the case again from barrier 12, but it has more upside than most in this so respect.

Race 4 tip: Ours To Keep to win ($4.60) at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 5 – BOQ Mooloolaba 3YO Handicap (1200m)

Clockwork Orange made a meal of its opposition last start at Sunshine Coast and the well-bred filly looks a chance again. The Toby Edmonds-trained former Victorian scored by over four lengths in a dominant display at rating 65 grade and this is much harder. It will likely drop back from the wide draw and look for jockey Jeff Lloyd to come with a searching run around the home turn. Chance around the $4 mark.

Matthew Dunn lines up Care To Think which finished second behind subsequent winner Sneaky Glance at Grafton last start. The form out of that race is strong and the So You Think gelding didn’t get all favours during the run. Dropping back in distance is the primary concern, but it has won and placed at the 1200m and carrying only 54.5kg is a bonus. It has good potential and is a value chance at $5.

Race 5 tip: Care To Think to win ($5) at Bet365.com

Race 6 – The Pump House Caloundra Cup (2400m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1135659_06]

Self Sense gave its rivals a galloping lesson in the Ipswich Cup and there’s no reason why a repeat couldn’t be on the cards. The David Brideoake-trained gelding scored by 6.8 lengths over a similar field and it only rises up 2kg in the weights. It can handle all different track conditions and only a lack of experience on this track would deter punters. $3.10 is a value price for a quality stayer.

Benzini finished second behind Self Sense in the Ipswich Cup and that should be the best form guide for this. The Kiwi runner hasn’t been able to win of late, but it has been running on well in most of its races and the rise up to 2400m is ideal. It will get back during the run for jockey Kelly McCulloch and storm home late.

Race 6 tip: Self Sense to win ($3.10) at WilliamHill.com.au

Race 7 – HMR projects Glasshouse Handicap (1400m)

The Virginian didn’t get the best of luck in the Eye Liner last start and punters should allow it another chance. The four-year-old by Hinchinbrook produced a good late finish along the inside of runners, but with clear running in the straight it could have finished closer. A rain-affected track would best suit it and it looks well-placed to score the win at each way odds.

Too Good To Refuse is the current favourite which has surprised some punters. There’s no doubting its ability, but it has been a long time between wins and there’s a question over whether the W.J. Healy Stakes form is the best form for this. The Desleigh Forster-trained entire has experience on this track with two placings, but it does find it hard to cross the line first. It’s an open field with a $6 favourite so consider for win bets.

Race 7 tip: The Virginian to win ($7.50) at CrownBet.com.au

Race 8 – XXXX Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1135659_08]

Crack Me Up has won only one of its 14 starts, but it produced an impressive finish behind subsequent winner Religify last start. The Birchley-trained three-year-old ran second as a $26 chance in the Wayne Wilson and it’s starting to show the form which led it to run in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas. It has good form on this track having finished second behind Ahndras in January and it should be flying down the outside from the wide barrier.

Zamex comes into this with only Highway Handicap form, but its last win was super impressive. The Dunn-trained gelding was at the back of the field at Rosehill and the win seemed out of reach, but it picked up with style and won with something in hand. It has the breeding to suggest getting out to longer distances will be no problem and punters are getting an incredible $8 with bookmakers.

Race 8 tip: Zamex to win ($8) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 9 – Yalumba Wines Winter Provincial Sprinters (1200m)

All Summer Long has been around the mark without winning this preparation and is has been specked at each way odds. The Dunn-trained six-year-old goes best at this distance with two wins and three placings from nine starts, so consider here at odds of $7 with bookmakers in what is an even betting field.

Jack Lancaster could provide some value at $9 following a last start placing on this track. It will be having its fourth run in this time which is ideal and its best form comes at this track and distance. Jockey Tiffani Brooker should give it a good sight from a nice barrier.

Race 9 tip: All Summer Long to win ($7) at Bet365.com
