2017 Bendigo Cup free betting tips, form and odds, November 1

Bendigo Cup tips

THE $300,000 Bendigo Cup is one of the premier midweek cup races in Australia and it has big Melbourne Cup ramifications.

It was disappointing to see only seven runners accept this year, but the field still includes top international hope Qewy and a host of local chances.

Bendigo hosts a 10-race betting card this Wednesday and we have free racing tips, form and updated odds every race which starts with the No Fuss Event Hire Maiden at 12pm.

Race 1 – Maiden Plate (1100m)

Flash Cash is a Matt Laurie-trained gelding which has finished second in three of its four starts. The son of Pluck finished second at Moe last start in what was a good effort and its start prior to that came at Caulfield. That was another solid run and it should be breaking maiden grades very soon.

My Boy Greg is knocking on the door following its placing at Tatura. The Janet Wicks-trained runner has been close in all seven career starts and running second behind the talented Pirapala is a good form guide for this. Bookmakers will likely have it at each way odds.

Race 1 tip: Flash Cash to win at Neds.com.au

Race 2 – Maiden Plate (1400m)

Magic Thor ran solidly last start behind Super Snob and that sprinting form should hold up well throughout the spring. The four-year-old didn’t show much last campaign, but it has improved in two starts this time around and getting the apprentice claim off its back is going to help here. Consider on an each way basis.

Perfectionist improved nicely to finish second at Donald last start and Donald form has a surprisingly good record during the spring. The Shaun Dwyer-trained gelding should improve over this distance and the form behind I Love Champagne looks a nice guide for this level.

Race 2 tip: Perfectionist to win at CrownBet.com.au

Race 3 – BM70 Handicap (1600m)

Knowable looks the hardest to beat in a small field. The Steve Richards-trained gelding has been competing against some top quality thoroughbreds this season and it went close at this track last start. The four-year-old has won two of its 12 starts and Richards believes it has the ability to win many more. We’re expecting punters to bet Knowable heavily.

Serenade The Stars is a must-watch horse for the Gelagotis stable. The imported four-year-old was solid international form, but it didn’t come at a high level. Owners OTI Racing are in a good run, however, so punters should keep an eye on this runner.

Race 3 tip: Knowable to win at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 4 – BM70 Handicap (1000m)

Villa Rosa was a stylish winner at Mornington last start and that form looks strong here. The Aaron Purcell-trained four-year-old had strong form prior to that win, which included a third placing at Moonee Valley last February. It took on the likes of recent Sale winner Falcool in the Moomba Plate, but this is more its level and it should run well again.

Raspberry Rose was a demanding winner on debut at Pakenham where it won by 4.25 lengths. The in-form Richard Laming stable lines up the Denman filly which had each way support on debut, but it wasn’t expected to win so easily. Rising in grade won’t make it easy here, but there’s a lot to like about its chances.

Race 4 tip: Villa Rosa to win at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 5 – BM78 Handicap (1100m)

Thronum looked to have plenty of ability as a juvenile and punters should expect a good showing here. The Lindsay Park-trained four-year-old hasn’t been seen since running sixth in the Stan Fox Stakes in September last year, but it has been given a trial to prepare for this. The Rosebud Stakes winner has plenty of pace and it will take some catching if the fitness levels are there.

Evil Lil is rarely too far away from the prize and it has finished third in three consecutive starts. The seven-year-old ran third behind Typhoon Monaco at Flemington last start in rating 84 grade and the drop back in grade is going to help nicely. It has won and placed from two starts at Bendigo and that bodes well.

Race 5 tip: Thronum to win at Neds.com.au

Race 6 – BM64 Handicap (1100m)

Pirapala was a last start winner at Tatura and it could progress through the grades nicely. The Lindsay Park-trained four-year-old has competed against the likes of I Thought So and Zenalicious in Sydney and that form is very good for midweek level at Bendigo. The China Horse Club-raced runner was classy last start and that form could continue.

From The Clouds came from the clouds to win at Geelong in June, but its last two starts have been tough. The Laurie-trained filly ran sixth at Caulfield in a hot field and again last start in the Thoroughbred Club Breeders Stakes. This is a more suitable level of racing and it might go under the bookmakers’ radar.

Race 6 tip: From The Clouds to win at CrownBet.com.au

Race 7 – BM64 Handicap (1400m)

I Have Arrived is a well-named colt which scored easily on debut. Connections clearly knew they had something nice on their hands and the 2.75-length win proved that. Trained by Mick Price, the son of Savabeel was backed in late to win at Ballarat and we’re predicting a much shorter price this time around. It looks a nice type in the making.

Metson was a 4.25-length winner on debut at Cranbourne before running 13th in the Exford Plate behind Royal Symphony. That run looks poor on paper and it was a disappointment, but it ran well for third behind subsequent Moonee Valley winner Eptimum last start, which signalled a return to form. One for the each way punters.

Race 7 tip: I Have Arrived to win at Neds.com.au

Race 8 – Bendigo Cup (2400m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1140923_08]

Qewy is a quality thoroughbred for Charlie Appleby and it brings the international flavour to the Bendigo Bank. The eight-year-old is looking to bounce back after a poor run in the Group 1 Goodwood Cup in August, but it always finds its best form in Australia. The 2016 Geelong Cup winner finished fourth in the Melbourne Cup behind Almandin before winning the Sandown Cup. That’s cracking form and he’ll win this if he’s ready to go.

Kiwia is the best of the local chances after winning from off the pace at Caulfield last start. It was tough to make ground on that day, but the Darren Weir-trained stayer moved into the race stylishly to beat Samovare and Maurus. It should only improve with more racing under its belt and there will be each way value on offer.

Race 8 tip: Qewy to win at Neds.com.au

Race 9 – Country Series Heat (1400m)

Night’s Watch is a tough horse to follow, but the former New Zealand gelding has the talent. The son of Redwood finished fourth behind Fox Hall at Cranbourne last start, but it’s a past winner at Bendigo in April and he has all the ability in the world, but it just needs to run straight. There were problems with soundness in New Zealand, but with more experience it should improve.

New Graduate returned to the track with a handy third placing last start and that should be a good form guide. The five-year-old finished second at Flemington in the autumn and that followed two consecutive wins at Cranbourne and Sandown. It’s chance here with that form as a guide.

Race 9 tip: Night’s Watch to win at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 10 – BM70 Handicap (1300m)

Saddle The Sun is an unbeaten gelding which won at Ballarat on debut before going to Cranbourne and winning again. The four-year-old gelding won by 3.75 lengths on debut and it defeated a handy field last start comfortably. This looks a nice rise in grade and we’re expecting punters to be keeping an eye on the market.

Got The Moves won back-to-back starts at Bendigo earlier this season before running third behind Toy Boy last start. The Corstens-trained runner finished within a length of the winner, so that performance was good and we’re confident it will run in the first three.

Race 10 tip: Got The Moves to place at Bet365.com
