Feature racing heads to country Victoria on Sunday afternoon for Seymour Cup Day. The Listed Seymour Cup (1600m) worth $200,000 is the headline act on the nine-race program. The track has come up as a Soft 5 but will start as a Good 4 due to favourable conditions in the lead-up. The rail sticks to its true position, with racing commencing at 1:15pm AEST.

The Richard Cully-trained Excelleration continues to race well and now gets his chance at Listed level first-up. The Mark Walker-trained Sans Doute chased home a smart one at Moonee Valley on October 6, going within a half-length of the race-fit Frilled. That was her first start in six months, and her Australian debut, so we expect she will only improve this weekend. Drawn in barrier three under Blake Shinn, Sans Doute can stalk the speed throughout and put this race away in a couple of strides.

Colombe D’or was a handy BM64 winner at Geelong on October 5 and looks set to bring up a fourth career win at start eight. The five-year-old mare managed to finish over the top of her rivals in impressive fashion under a smart ride from Mick Dee. She goes up 2kg following the win, and despite the evenness of the field, it is no harder than what she faced last time. Colombe D’or should get the race run to suit and will prove tough to hold out.

In a race where she should lob in the one-one position, Corner Off should prove too strong for her rivals late on in the piece.

Cliff Brown sends La Petite Angele back to Sale following a narrow defeat at Sandown on August 30. The three-year-old filly broke her maiden when getting the better of the smart Scorsese over the Sale 1210m on August 2 and returns to that track and trip on Sunday. She gets in perfectly at the weights with 4kg claiming apprentice Luke Cartwright on board. With plenty of speed drawn to her outside, we expect to see La Petite Angele land in a beautiful spot upon settling. You Oughta Know was hitting the line nicely on debut over 1300m at Seymour on September 1 and a return to the track, stepping up to the 1600m looks ideal. Having given his rivals too much of a start on the home turn, the Lonhro filly made steady ground to suggest she was worth following. Zac Spain will give her the perfect run in transit and will naturally improve from that debut effort. You Oughta Know should be breaking maiden ranks at start two.

The track came in for criticism when last raced on in April, its first meeting since December 2017, when large clods of turf were dislodged.
Following testing and analysis, Racing Victoria and the Seymour Racing Club agreed on an improvement plan to be implemented over eight months.
In allowing more consolidation time, the Seymour Cup, programmed for October 21, will not be staged during the 2018-19 season.
But a $200,000 Listed race over 1600m will be staged at the transferred meeting to be run at Cranbourne that day while meetings scheduled for August 18, September 6 and October 4 have been scheduled for other country venues.
“We will continue to do everything in our power to get the track up and running again and we expect to see a return to racing here at Seymour in November,” SRC chief executive Penny Reeve said.
A return to racing at Seymour is scheduled for November 1 subject to the successful completion of jump-outs.
]]>Concerns were raised about the size of divots being kicked back during a meeting at Seymour in April, forcing three meetings to be transferred.
Racing Victoria and the Seymour Racing Club announced on Wednesday they have also decided to move six meetings scheduled between June and September this year.
An RV release said that while an agronomists’ report found that the track was stable, it determined that the track had not retained appropriate moisture and nutrients which had impacted the root depth.
After more testing and some initial renovation works, a decision will be made by mid-September about the fate of meetings from October to December go ahead.

The Seymour Racing Club has been forced to transfer its upcoming meeting to Echuca after the track performed below expectations at its return meeting.
Tuesday’s meeting at Seymour was the first at the course since December 21 with the track coming under fire after clods were thrown up from the opening race.
Some trainers have reported horses receiving serious eye injuries after being struck.
Both Racing Victoria and the Seymour club expressed disappointment with the way the track performed on Tuesday.
Soil and turf tests have been conducted since the meeting in an attempt to determine the likely cause.
With those results still outstanding RV, in consultation with the club, elected to transfer the meeting on April 23 to Echuca.

WE head 100km north of Melbourne to Seymour for this week’s quaddie as the rural city hosts a nine-race card on Thursday afternoon.
Last week we nailed three of the four legs at Wagga, but missed out on the second race of the quaddie after a late firmer sunk our ship.
We move on quickly however and Seymour presents us with a fresh chance to bleed those bookies dry.
Race six on the card is the Insuremyfleet.com.au benchmark 64 over the 1600m trip, which kicks off the quaddie at 3.30 pm.

Press Release is a highly touted mare that has already recorded two wins at this distance in its career to date. Last time out at Moe it won handsomely as an outsider in the market and should be much closer to the head of affairs today jumping from barrier four.
Canadienne returns to Seymour where it recorded its maiden win three-weeks-ago in commanding fashion. The three-year-old ticks a lot of boxes on its return to the track on Thursday and could be another Godolphin filly to watch heading into the future.
Mare Try Pink gets a fantastic opportunity to break through for its second career win on Thursday. Under Beau Mertens, jumping from barrier five and returning to a distance where it has won once and placed another across three runs bodes well for the five-year-old which should be right in the mix at the post.
Race 6 quaddie tips: 5, 6 and 8
Race 7 – Zurich Insurance AU BM64 (1414m)
Hat-trick seeking Ruary Mac is racing in the best form of its career and returns to a familiar track which has yielded success. The 57-race veteran has recorded back-to-back wins in similar grades and returns to a distance where it has performed well in the past.
Black Sail shook the maiden tag at the second time of asking at Echuca as a short-priced favourite in the last week of August and if that form holds up it will go well again on Thursday. The colt jumps from an inside barrier the three-year-old can utilise its early speed to find a prominent position in the running. The three-year-old looks progressive and could potentially become a black-type runner.
We are forgiving Angelic Spirit’s last start sixth at Sandown three-weeks-ago in an oddly run race. Instead, we are looking to the debut at Sale when filly won as a short-priced favourite. We are banking on the three-year-old to get some good cover from barrier seven and unleash in the straight just as it did on debut.
Race 7 quaddie tips: 2, 7 and 8
Race 8 – BOQ Finance BM70 (1200m)
Bon’s Away looks to be a star of the future and after recording its second-straight win at Mildura a hat-trick seems a formality. From barrier four it gets the perfect cart into the race and we find it hard to mount a case as to why it cannot win.
Heza Magic Man is looking to maintain its own great run of form after winning twice and placing a further two times across its last five runs. The horse stays at its pet distance, which has delivered two wins and two placings across seven runs. The gelding loves the sprint trip and will be aided by gate five.
Light ‘N’ Fire is second up on Thursday where it has previously won in the past. Upon resumption it finished seventh of 12 runners at Echuca on August 21, but given it has failed to place on three previous first-up attempts we are looking past that. Prior to being turned out in November of last year the son of Blevic had recorded three wins and a second place from four runs. The Weir runner knows how to win.
Race 8 quaddie tips: 2, 7 and 9
Race 9 – Seymour Toyota BM64 (1100m)
All About Nicci is racing in tremendous form since returning from a nine month break back in July. The mare won on resumption as a despised outsider at Echuca before finishing behind classy runner As Bad As Tyson at Wodonga. The horse is now fresh off a shorter lay off and will be ready to win once again.
Zelamore is the textbook definition of a hit-or-miss runner. In its 13 race career the horse has won three times but only placed a solitary time outside those successes. On Thursday it returns to a distance where it has recorded two of those wins and that placing and looks well placed to hit hard at Seymour from barrier four.
Weir runner Streets Of Liberty is looking to recapture the form which saw it finish second and record back-to-back wins in its opening three races. The horse is second-up after an average showing at Warranmbool at the tail end of August, but it has won at this stage of its preparation in the past. Jumping from barrier one will not be an issue given its a leading type and it has the potential to get back to its winning ways on Thursday.
