Yet another twist in the Ben Currie saga

Queensland trainer Ben Currie has further charges to answer while he is overseas.

The ongoing saga of charges against Ben Currie has taken another twist with stewards bringing on an inquiry while the Toowoomba trainer is overseas.

Currie is in Bali where he has a long standing commitment as best man at a wedding for a close friend.

He is not expected back in Australia until late this week.

Last week Queensland stewards informed Currie’s legal team they had listed an inquiry for Monday into two charges involving phone texts which are alleged to involve the use of a jigger.

Those charges are separate from seven charges which also include some allegations of jigger use to be heard on Tuesday week.

Currie is believed to have already left the country when the date was set.

To further complicate matters Currie’s solicitor has an interstate commitment on Monday but the inquiry is set to go ahead with his barrister Jim Murdoch making submissions on legal points.

Currie is due in court on Thursday when his lawyers will ask for an extension of a stay order against a ruling to stand him down pending an inquiry into other charges.

He is to be cross examined on his statement regarding the charges but it is now set to be done by a phone link to Bali.

Stewards had hoped to have all 42 allegations against Currie heard by the end of the month but that is now unlikely.
