Yattarna runs rivals ragged in Group Three

Having earned a brief reprieve from the spelling paddock, Yattarna has repaid her connections with a Group win at Randwick.

Trainer James Cummings was disappointed with her last-start second in a metropolitan class race at Wyong but decided to extend her campaign to encompass Saturday’s JHB Carr Stakes (1400m).

After she jumped well, Glyn Schofield had not hesitation sending the $31 chance to the front and she was never headed, running out a half-length winner over No More Tears ($10).

Lady Sniper ($6.50) held on to finish another short half head third with the $2.20 favourite Pearls making little impression for seventh.

“She has done a great job for her owners who are some really good clients of the stable,” Cummings said.

“She has tripled her value here today.

“After she was beaten at Wyong she was going to the paddock but we decided to give her one more try.

“She will definitely be going for a break now and she will get ready for the spring.”

James McDonald said Pearls had never got in the hunt.

“She was just slow away and never took part,” he said.

Schofield said Yattarna still had some furnishing to do and had done her job well.

“She got a race that she probably burgled today, but I think we’ll have some happy connections,” Schofield said.

“She controlled the race and was strong through the line.

“She is a big filly but she’s not very strong yet.

“Hopefully she does develop a little bit more and that may give a little bit more to her performances, but you can’t take anything away from today.”
