Wynne trains and rides a Pakenham winner

Sally Wynne has become the latest dual licence holder to win a race in Victoria.

Stradista was successful at Pakenham on Thursday with Wynne riding and training the gelding to his maiden success at his 24th start.

To make the win even sweeter, Stradista is owned by Wynne’s mother Dianne.

Stradista was Wynne’s 11th starter since being granted her trainers’ licence late last year and she joins Michelle Payne and Jade Darose as trainers to have also ridden their horses to victory.

“Finally,” Wynne told racing broadcaster racing.com.

“I’m basically doing something I’ve done my entire career, it’s just legal now and in my own name.”

Wynne said for Stradista to give her the victory was special.

With the blessing of her mother, Wynne bought Stradista as a yearling and described him as her boyfriend.

“He’s like the guy I never met,” Wynne said.

“I broke him, got him racing. He’s my baby and he’s been spoilt.

“I gave up on him last prep and endeavoured to rehome him on a week’s trial but he didn’t last 23 hours and I had to go and pick him up.

“He tried to jump a barbed wire fence and put a massive hole in his forearm so for his own safety and his future I thought it best to bring him home.”
