Wisdom Of Water draws well in Magic Millions Classic
Wisdom Of Water has had support for the Magic Millions Classic but Aim remains favourite.
After a rocky start to his Magic Millions 2YO Classic campaign, things have fallen into place for Gold Coast youngster Wisdom of Water.
The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Aim remains the $5.50 favourite for the Classic after drawing barrier two at a function on Southport beach on Tuesday.
But strong backing is expected for several runners who drew well including the Toby and Trent Edmonds-trained Wisdom Of Water.
The colt was the star of the early two-year-old trials but failed to handle the Eagle Farm track when well beaten at his first start.
After a short break he came back and again trialled well.
He was entered for a race at Doomben last week but scratched to run in the Gold Nugget on his home track Saturday after originally being an emergency.
He got a run, won the race and secured a place in the Millions.
Toby Edmonds believes he has a strong chance at a second 2YO Classic win after Wisdom Of Water drew barrier seven and is likely to start from six after scratchings.
“Things are starting to come together for him. Wisdom Of Water should be able to get a nice run behind the pace with cover from there and get his chance,” he said.
Edmonds said Wisdom Of Water would do his final work on Thursday morning.
“Then it will be up to the jockey (Robbie Fradd). I think with luck he will about the winner’s stall.”
Edmonds won the Millions with Houtzen in 2017 after a similar difficult path to the race.
Several of this year’s better chances drew poorly including Godolphin’s Conceited (17) and Dusty Tycoon (15).
Conceited’s trainer James Cummings was still positive for the Millions.
“His second (Gold Nugget) was good because he really got going on the final 100 metres,” he said.
“The step up to 1200 metres on Saturday will suit.”
Trainer Rob Heathcote believes luck will now play a major role in Dusty Tycoon’s chances.
“I really thought she had a top chance from a good barrier but it will be tough now,” he said.
“It is disappointing.”
Jockey Tom Berry said barrier two was not ideal for Aim who can get back in his races.
“But I would rather draw two than 22,” he said.
The market for the Magic Millions Guineas remained unchanged after favourite Alligator Blood drew barrier 11 but could start from eight after scratchings.
Alligator Blood, who worked at Caloundra on Tuesday, remains the $1.75 favourite.
