Winx’s sibling El Divino wins maiden race

El Divino has emulated his famous big sister Winx in winning at his first race start.

Trainer by Gai Waterhouse, the two-year-old is by leading sire Snitzel, making him a half-brother to turf glamour girl Winx.

El Divino raced up to expectations in running away to win a metropolitan-class race at Gosford on Thursday.

“He’s a very good colt, you only have to look at him to have confidence,” winning jockey James McDonald said.

Winx, who is by Street Cry, also won at her first start at Warwick Farm in June, 2014.

Ten more wins and $4 million in earnings later, Winx is recognised as Australia’s best racehorse with Group One victories in the Cox Plate, Epsom Handicap and Chipping Norton Stakes this season.

Waterhouse has high hopes for El Divino as the colt comes of age and she expects him to figure during The Championships.

“He’s certainly a very exciting colt going forward (and) hopefully a race like the Kindergarten (Stakes) might be a nice option for him,” Tulloch Lodge racing manager Adrian Bott said.

Winx will be chasing her eighth win on end when she lines up as an odds-on favourite in the George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.
