Winx, Jameka in hunt for NSW owner awards

Winx
Winx is in line to take home the major awards after winning its second consecutive Cox Plate last October.

Mighty mare Winx’s ability to win at both the mile and middle distances has been acknowledged with nominations for two NSW awards.

The dual Cox Plate winner could go one better than last year after being nominated for both top miler and middle distance categories for the NSW Racehorse Owners’ Association’s black-tie annual awards night.

The Chris Waller-trained mare last year took out both the miler award and the overall Champion Horse of the Year award, which she is likely to win again following six Group One wins.

Judging panels decide the NSW champion, NSW provincial, NSW country and Queen of the Autumn categories but all other awards are based on a points system.

Caulfield Cup and BMW winner Jameka is in contention for the Stayer of the Year prize, along with Darren Weir-trained Big Duke, Sydney Cup winner Polarisation and The Metropolitan victor Sir John Hawkwood.

Queen of the Turf winner Foxplay could be named Queen of the Autumn and the season’s top three-year-old while Golden Slipper She Will Reign is up for the juvenile award.
