Williams keeps Kool Kompany in Ranvet

A Ranvet Stakes trophy is the only one missing from the five Group One races held on Golden Slipper day for Craig Williams.

The Melbourne has two Rosehill Guineas victories, a George Ryder Stakes and a Galaxy to his name to go with his 2006 Golden Slipper win on Miss Finland.

Williams gets the chance to add the Ranvet Stakes to his record when he rides the Chris Waller-trained Kool Kompany at Rosehill on Saturday.

Kool Kompany is one of three runners Waller saddles up.

Storm The Stars is considered the best hope of Waller’s runners at $8.50 with Kool Company at $14.

Weary is the $35 outsider in the nine-horse field with Hauraki the market leader at $3.80.

An Irish-bred import, Kool Kompany will be lining up for his fourth Australian start and the third of his current campaign.

“I liked his run in a competitive race here at Flemington over the spring carnival,” Williams said.

“He’s had time to acclimatise and Chris Waller has a remarkable result with European imported horses going through their grades.

“He fits the bill as being another one of those horses.”

Kool Kompany was a six-time winner from 14 starts in England and Ireland over distances ranging from 1000m to a mile 1600m before making his way to Australia.

At his most recent outing, the four-year-old was a sound fourth behind It’s Somewhat and Excess Knowledge in the Ajax Stakes at Rosehill last Saturday.

The Ranvet Stakes will be Kool Kompany’s first shot at a trip beyond a mile.
