Williams careless riding appeal date set

Jockey Craig Williams has appealed a 12-meeting careless riding suspension following his ride on Real Love in the Caulfield Cup.

Williams will front the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board on Tuesday in a bid to ride in Saturday’s Cox Plate in which he has been booked for Epsom Handicap winner Hauraki.

Dwayne Dunn is on standby to take the ride should Williams’ appeal fail.

Stewards suspended Williams after determining he crowded Sir Isaac Newton with Sacred Master and Scottish also affected in the incident early in Saturday’s race won by Jameka.

Williams pleaded not guilty to the charge.

His suspension began immediately and if unsuccessful in his appeal, he would not be back until October 26.
