Wildcard Wednesday roughie bets for January 24

LET’S face it, any mug punter can tip you a winner at better than even-money odds and claim they’re an expert.

But the real professionals can lay claim to the title of a tipster when they deliver you a long-shot.

The team at Horse Betting prides itself on its tipping prowess, and seldom do we take the easy option and give out red-hot tips on races where a short-price elect is taking to the track.

Anyone can tip Winx, we want to steer you into a big dividend – which is why we have launched Wildcard Wednesdays.

Every Wednesday, Horse Betting will be issuing our four favourite bets at odds for the mid-week meets.

Rest assured that nothing under $10 will ever be tipped here.

Ballarat Race 3 – Okay Boss

Okay Boss opened as a $20 outsider and has firmed in slightly across most bookmakers, but still represents a great price.

On debut the horse gave backers a great sight out in front before getting run down in the latter stages by short-priced favourite and smart type Declarationofheart.

The horse comes into a wide-open affair as one of only a handful of runners which has taken to the track before, and one of only two which has finished inside the top-two on race-day. We believe that will count for a lot on Wednesday.

Veteran rider Jamie Mott gets the steer and we believe Okay Boss is primed for a big run in just its second career start.

Hawkesbury Race 1 – Mohican

There’s something about the horse at odds in a smaller field which causes consternation for punters, and Mohican is no exception going into the first at Hawkesbury.

In a field where nothing really stands out in the six-runner event, the horse’s form reads as good as any. The Robert & Luke Price runner won two starts back at Nowra before only narrowly missing out last-start at the same venue.

Mohican is bringing rock-solid form into the contest, and while this represents a step-up in class from Nowra, we believe the horse is more than capable of providing a quality run and double-figure odds.

Hawkesbury Race 2 – Dunatun

Dunatun is ticking a lot of boxes for us coming into this race.

The horse has not raced since it broke the maiden tag at Hawkesbury on December 17 in eye-catching fashion, but has trialed since, winning that in a canter.

The freshen up will do this horse the world of good and the trial win builds a ton of confidence for us. Jumping from gate four will also be hugely beneficial as the Garry White gelding will be able to settle just off the speed and finish over the top of them as the post approaches.

Punters have been onto this one early, backing it into the $11 mark after it opened at $14, so shop as early as possible.

Ballarat Race 8 – Bossy Miss

Micheal Newton-trained Bossy Miss looks set for a big run in the final event at Ballarat and will relish the opportunity to race in weaker company after a stint in the city.

The horse finished strongly last time out at Sandown to round out the first four at a huge price, finishing under three lengths away from the winner. That race was a slightly weaker grade, but it drops 3kg coming into this race.

Punters have already pounced on the long odds since fixed odds markets opened, but there is still a huge price around this very capable runner in the eighth and final event at Ballarat.
