Brew was the second last horse to complete the Hotham Stakes (now called the Archer Stakes) – Melbourne Cup double, Shocking the only other horse to complete the winning double (in 2009).

The winner of the Archer Stakes is guaranteed a start in the Melbourne Cup, as long as they are still in the 2024 Melbourne Cup Order of Entry.
