Werribee Cup Day betting preview
Racing returns to Werribee for the first time since June 21 for Werribee Cup Day on Sunday afternoon. Nine races are set down for decision, and there looks to be plenty of value to be had throughout the card with not many short-priced favourites going around. The track has come up a Good 4, and despite showers lingering around over the weekend, we are not expecting too much deterioration throughout the meeting. The first race on Werribee Cup Day will jump at 1:20pm AEDT.
It’s near impossible to ignore the form around Polina, who looks well placed in this maiden to build on her impressive start to her career. Three weeks ago she went down by two lengths to a couple of handy types, and the quinella at that Pakenham race have since come out and won their next starts. In total, four of her rivals in that race have gone on to win since, so the form she brings to this looks the one to follow. The wide barrier doesn’t seem to be too much of a concern, and John Allen should be able to get her into the moving line with cover considering there isn’t much early speed drawn underneath her. With a bit of luck early on, she looks hard to go past as our best tip of the day at Werribee.

It was a tough all-the-way victory for Miss Albania out at Moe on November 19. She was joined in the lead with 600m to go but had plenty left in the tank to kick clear in the home straight. With plenty of speed drawn to her outside, Craig Newitt will look to use barrier two to his advantage and get the four-year-old mare to settle up on speed whilst holding out her rivals from the rails. She looks the one to beat in the opening leg of the quaddie.

They do not come any tougher than David Jolly’s gelding, who just doesn’t know how to run a poor race. He has won three of his past six starts and was beaten under a length and a half at his first start in Melbourne metropolitan racing. He has been racing in remarkable form back in South Australia and has won the Horsham Cup this campaign. He will not be far from the speed early on, and he will stay all day and should play a pivotal role in the finish of the Werribee Cup.
