Weir cements place in Warrnambool history with five Day 2 winners

DK Weir
Darren Weir has nine winners from the first two days of the Warrnambool Racing Carnival.

IT did not take long for Weir-mania to grip the Bool on day two of the festival.

Kiwia won impressively on debut for the Weir camp in race one, returning $9.50 via Crownbet.com.au, and the Twittersphere was quick to pick up on a familiar trend which was materialising once again.

It did not take Weir long to return to the winner’s circle either.

The Victorian trainer took two imports into the fourth race on the card, and the least fancied of the two runners Kellstorm took out the race and returned $11.40 at Luxbet.com.au.

Punters are already climbing aboard the former Irish galloper following the win.

The good thing for Weir on day two was Renew in the Sov. Resort Galleywood Hurdle, and the short-priced favourite did not let punters down.

The gun seven-year-old lead the entire way to record an easy win, and punters were pumped.

You would think with three winners already in the bag Weir would be content, but the people at the Bool knew better.

The aptly named The Passage found a gap in the field late in the piece in the very next race following Renew’s punishing win, to surged to the front and return $5.90 at WilliamHill.com.au.

This win equalled Weir’s record of eight races in a single Warrnambool Racing Carnival meet.

The great man took just one race of the remaining 13 left at the Bool to surpass the record.

Ulmann won stylishly in a strangely ran Wangoom Handicap, retuning $19.10 at Sportsbet.com.au, and one punter was already looking to the next race following the win.

Unfortunately, the trainer elected to bypass the ninth on the card.

One punter was not on the Weir train in the feature however, and bemoaned the fact that race favourite Jungle Edge was not scratched at the barriers following a pre-race incident.

Weir took the favourite into the final race of the day but High Lago could not end the day in a positive fashion for the team.

The champion trainer ended day two with nine winners to his name. If we were to bet on it he will notch up the double figure win early in the piece tomorrow.

To cap things off, we couldn’t help but getting in on the fun ourselves. Long live the horse whisperer!
